How do you like the hardtop? Does it rattle, and is it weathertite in rain.

^^ Hardtop is great. Haven't had it on in a couple months (drought + CA summer), but looks like it's going to be going back on soon. No excessive rattling, and for about half the cost of a totally new convertible top, I couldn't recommend it more highly.

And the toys. Would you believe that stroller costs nearly as much as my Vespa is worth?

Heard my new hood is going to be shipping soon, so updates!

Got the new hood but it was damaged in transit. Can't wait to get it fixed properly and get it on.

In other news, dropped the car off for the following service:

- valve adjustment
- replace all 4 CV boots
- replace and install new powder coated cooling fan and hub
- replace all belts
- new RS engine mounts
- potentially a new distributor belt (if my wrench feels comfortable, otherwise will send out)
- paint and install aero mirrors

Took car out for the drive up to Petaluma yesterday with no traffic and it was awesome. Can't wait to get it back

Update: Hopefully going to pick up the car on Saturday. Full list of items completed:

- Replace Alternator
- Replace internal distributor belt
- Replace fender seals
- Replace Engine fan
- Paint and replace mirrors
- Repair Left and right Axle shafts
- Install RS engine mounts
- Install Momo steering wheel
- Perform Valve adustment

The good news is that my valves were not far out of spec. Bad (but known) news is there is some oil leaking. Huzzah. Will post a photo when I get it back.

Last sighting before it went in. In-n-Out parking lot.

Just got my car back. Have to give a firm shout out to Josh Bare (North Bay Parts) for doing a great job at supremely reasonable rates. After sampling the bigger shops in the East bay (Bauer Porsche, Germany's Best), he's heads ahead in terms of quality of work, honesty, and price.

Some gratuity shots of the "show" parts.

Keep up the good work.

I am finally back on the road and evaluating the D.Moris hardtop. Definitely need to work on fitting adjustments, but overall I love it. The nice part is the amount of visibility compared to the soft top.

Duck,

I know what you mean with the top; it's definitely a trial and error process. I've been adding washers to the front latches and investigating the use of gaskets around the entirety of the hardtop to perfect it.

Good news is I still have a ton of great gasket material left over from re-doing the seal on my oil cooler, so next iteration is going to use that.

After a chat with Josh, it seems the only outstanding item is an engine reseal haha.

And replacing the rear tires.

I love 996 10-spoke wheels on these cars. Definitely a bargain considering how light they are and how well they look and fit. I'm contemplating plastidipping mine black.

New friends. Also please take a look at my for sale ad for a bunch of stuff I need to clear out of my garage! CTT is a fatty.

Next on the docket is a repaint of the hood and potentially fenders depending on how well they can blend everything.

CEL issue driving me nuts.

Nobody has mentioned a mis-fire, but it seems that might be the most likely answer. I did have a valve adjustment done, and a new distributor belt, so I'm thinking maybe plugs? I haven't changed them since I bought the car 2 years ago, but I've only put on 3K miles. This all started when I put on new wheels, and lifted the back of the car (but not the front, so it was tilted forward).

I've also noticed that at highway speeds, the CEL never comes on, it's almost always at sub-3K RPM when I'm just driving around the neighborhood. To remind all, the CEL isn't registering on the scantool.

I put in my solid state DME, and unplugged the battery for over half an hour to see if that helped reset anything. No dice.

Anyone have any good ideas before I just go ahead and have the plugs changed?

When was the last time the plug wires were changed?

Great question, and unfortunately I'm not sure. Likely never. Back in 2004 wachuko swapped his wires due to the Christmas tree syndrome; I obviously don't have that, so I guess the question is excepting a notable failure like that, are the cables really a weak point? Happy to spend the $500 for the new cables, just want to make sure I'm not chasing down another rabbit hole (like I was doing with the ISV).
