Default Spacers for RS engine mounts, or not?

Bought myself a pair of 964 RS engine mounts to replace the original 964 std mounts. On removing the originals, it is immediately evident that different bolts are needed. Also, I measured from the face of the mounting flange to the lower part of the through hole, and the originals are approx 12 mm longer, i.e. I would need spacers to keep the engine at the same level.

Being the beginning of the long w/e here in the UK and being determined to get the job done , I managed to find a nut & bolt store open and bought a pair of 120mm high tensile bolts. Then I machined up a pair of 10mm spacers (2mm less to allow for some of the droop in the old ones, not that they were saggy.... ).

It's all back together now and it looks about right, though I dont have a reference other than eye-balling it. So question is, are spacers necessary or am I missing something else (literally...)?

This is the hardware you should have for each mount.

That's a 'no' to the spacers then. I dont understand as the original mounts are longer when you take into account the distance between the engine carrier and engine bay...

I have zero experience w/ these mounts (Wevo all the way), but is it possible you're installing them upside down?

Can you post some pics of your motor mounts the way they currently sit? Maybe your OEM mounts are blown and very saggy, hence what you think is normal, is actually the engine sitting lower than it should. The new RS mount will bring it back up to the appropriate height.

For example, these are my old blown out mounts. They were sagging like crazy.

The 964 Catalog doesn't show a spacer. I just installed Wevo MM on my 89 and the engine raised up a reasonable bit. If you are comparing the total length of the original motor mounts, failed units will be longer.

Pic below of one of my RS mounts installed. I bought the whole kit as shown in Pervy's pic above. The brass and zinc coated spacer washers you see on top are mirrored by the same on the underside. No extra spacers required.

Thanks to everyone for their pics. Steve from yours, it looks like those silver-ish spacers are around 5mm, so that would account around half of my offset - the rest being old age sag (ahem...). I'll post a pic of my droopy one when I get home tonight....

Cheers
Dan

Dan, with the RS (or wevo) mounts you should not get any sag. Get yourself 4 of the silver washers (available separately and pretty cheap by Porsche standards), assemble as shown in the pics above and then jack up the engine so the carrier is snug with the lower most silver spacer and put on the bottom nut and tighten.

Part number for the silver washer is 999 025 074 02. (they are indeed 5 mm thick).

I was referring to the sag in my original mounts, which I thought still had loads of life left in them, but maybe they're on the way out.
I'll get myself a complete set of bolts and washers from Porscha, in case the others I sourced are below par strength-wise. Many thanks for all the info

I would point out that, for installation in a Turbo, 110 mm bolts are required. The two bosses on the Turbo carrier are deeper than the n/a car and the 105 mm bolts provided by the factory do not allow for full engagement of the flange nut.

All those individual parts are listed here with up to date part numbers, including the 110mm bolts!
