Yeah I could but I want to keep the engine as per factory for the first instal to get it running and see what its like - hiding the IC can be a future job.

Thanks Mark, I've been wanting to do a tt swap for ages so kinda my dream transplant project! Ive been meaning to start a post on PP about the project as I'm sure I'd get some decent advice from the wider audience - I'll catch you over there soon then

So I was checking the intake gasket thingys the other day and spotted some debris:

Hmm - that cant be good so decided to pull the cover:

Hope I can remember where all this goes:

All went well apart from these little tinkers:

Tempted to just putt it all to bits now I'm this far and check the rings and the guides - hmmmm!

Careful mate, it's an expensive slippery slope!!

The debris looks like it could just be storage mess?

Inlet stud doesn't look too bad, the sub-flush one could be a bit more of a challenge. It may be worth a quick word with Ben C - remember his exhaust stud that he had a nightmare with, he found a mobile chap who came round and sorted it quickly & easily just to save you the time and **** ache.

You told me on many occasions to just sling it in when I was messing around on mine and I would be tempted to do do just that. Change the gaskets & all the obvious stuff, give it a bit of a clean up and run it. If it needs to come out later then it's not such a big job.

Trouble is that you can't even give it a leakdown as it wouldn't give an accurate result because it's been sitting around and the engine would be tested cold.

Come on, JFDI Jev

Dont worry I'll save the rebuild for next winter

Bit more tinkering over the past week or so, firstly some bad news: Check this little tinker out

From the state of the break area it looks like it happened a while ago. Its non load bearing so I think I'll try a macGyver repair first to save yanking the chain box - any other ideas?

Another lucky find:

I think I'll send them off for a refurb or maybe just track down some new ones.

Parts stock is gathering pace, amazing how expensive all the little seals and stuff are but would be silly to not do them while I'm at this stage

Ready for the next phase:

Sorry for the blurry pic but does anyone know if the fingers on the stainless air diverter jobby are supposed to line up with the gaps or the fins - I seem to have a mixture of both?

Valve cover off:

Cams look clean:

Cleaned up ready for new gaskets on the valve cover:

New(Bosch) vs old(Beru) plugs - slight variation in part number (FR6LDC vs FR6LDU)

Bottom valve cover off:

Chain box cover removed ready for new gasket and o rings:

Chain box looking fairly clean:

I was tempted to tear into it further but after a chat with Ray @ Northways and the fact my labour is free I'm gona just do all the perishable seals and chuck it in and see what its like.

No idea mate - looks a bit like a melt but could also have just been a casting failure?

Not really - I keep dithering between rebuild and just fit it! Ive got 2 weeks off now so might make some progress if I get some time.

Its the inside bolt of the RH chain housing that holds the shroud down, you can see it in this pic:

So guys I'm getting slightly cold feet about putting this tt lump into the 964! Thing is that my 964 is a C00 lhd manual non sunroof good colour C2, im almost thinking it would be nuts to put a tt lump in it when really a 430ps 993 tt lump should live in a 993 Gt2 rep since that what they came with from the factory.

I know I wanted a sleeper..blah blah blah... but maybe a 964 narrow body is better with circa 300 bhp than a lairy too much power tt964 monster that is always trying to kill me and instead the tt lump should go into a 993!

Already posted on IB with various opinions but what do you guys think...I'm thinking of something a little like this:
