Default Going on a long trip, any tips?

I have determined that I must drive my p-car on my vacation, with winter fast approaching any seat time I can get I'll take. My question is are there any parts I should carry (spares) or replace before I leave? I just completed a major service a few hundred miles ago consisting of plugs, wires, caps & rotors, fuel-oil-air filter, new belt, changed gear oil and valve adjustment. Anything to make my first long trip a success would be greatly appreciated? Thanks, Steven

check tyre pressures, windscreen washer fluid and oil level. You might want to carr y a DME relay backup as well, thinking about it...

fuses, couple of spare light bulbs, Tire pressure gauge, check battery electrolyte level, spare fan belt (make sure you loosen and again tighten the nut holding the pulleys so you could do it on the road, if needed. If it has not been loosened in a long time it may be impossible to get off without a "cheater bar"). check brake pads. Duct tape always makes me feel better. -optional- 9mm Glock- Oh yeah- if you dont already have one, this is a good time to rationalize getting a V-1 radar detector

A Glock should be standard, a .40 rides with me.

Even if you guys are joking, it still sounds bizzare to those of us on the other side of the pond to hear!

I hope they are joking. But as an ex-pat the thought that the guy who has just carved you up on the road may have a semi-automatic in his lap somewhat discourages the kinds of gestures that I grew up making in London traffic!

politeness is certainly a virtue. That is why the plates on my P-car read "HY-OFCR" I believe in being friendly to the Police...

I always carry an extra Fuel Pump/DME Relay. Also, if you don't have one yet, now is the time to get a FIRE EXTINGUISHER for your car. Carry one in every vehicle. I have never had to use one on my own vehicle yet, but I have put out several small fires in the vehicles of others. The damage difference is incredible if you can knock down a small fire quickly versus waiting for the PD or FD to respond to knock it down for you.

Fire extinguisher in every vehicle you own!

Have fun on your trip,
Tom

I take a CB radio (hand held) when I go on trips. That plus a travelling first aid kit.

I'm not joking, but descriptive hand gestures are generally returned with a smile, never with a Glock.

You got your spare tire, your first aid kit, your cell phone and your handgun, hoping that you don't need any of them. Probably strange to anyone that's not been confronted by the lawless.

A fine Austrian Handgun, a wonderful German Porsche and a spirited drive through the American countryside..........life is good!

If your ever in downtown Miami, don't miss your ramp onto the Interstate! You'll find yourself driving through some seriously rough neighborhoods. Ask me why I know! You'll wish you had a gun!

Last year a co-worker did just that. A couple of street thugs set a trap that flattened all four tires of his Mercedes at once. Then they rushed the car, dragged him out, beat him down, stole his wallet, his briefcase, and his watch. Fortunately for him, the cops found him in short order.

...and for the record I favor hollow-points!

...and a gun would help in this situation would it?

Don't worry Rob, you wouldn't understand - it's all to do with having the freedom to kill people...

Cheers

2 big cans of flat tire fix (sometimes you want to change to the spare elsewhere), one quart of oil (no telling what's available when you find you're low), flashlight, air guage, duct tape, electrical tape, cell phone. AS
