Lol...Yeah, really. 0w/40 was just Mobil speaking. Always a bit suspicious of oils with such a large range such as a 10w/60 too.

Here is the link to Porsche's Website:

Regarding oils, I really like the Joe Gibbs stuff. Can be hard to find. Jake Raby is behind it and that is enough for me. Recently went with the Valvoline VR1 in a pinch for my 76 914 and it seems to be doing well too. Had good temps and won my class at the track last weekend. I heard the Brad Penn stuff is not what it used to be.

I also have a 993 and the local dealer told me they won't use this on the 993's because "this oil is for vehicles with mechanical valve lash adjusters up to but not including 993’s. (The 993 has hydraulic valve lifters)." They are staying with Mobil-1 for their services. Makes me really nervous. Called Porsche NA to get their position and the rep I spoke with was not even aware of the new oil's existence.

I tried the Joe Gibbs oil in my 964. The car ran noticeably hotter than using Brad Penn. Just my experience.

I have not heard Brad Penn has changed.

Just bought 5 cases of BP for the garage. $69/case delivered to my doorstep (Amazon). Not bad.

What's the best oil to use if you live in SoCal? Not as hot as Texas, but can get up there in the summer. Still BP 20w 50?

Fwiw I just drove 10 hours non-stop yesterday in sweltering heat and also sat a bit in dead stop trafic 45 mins at a time, and with bp 20/50 oil fresh from an oil change two weeks ago, the temp gauge never got over the half way mark on the gauge. No clue if that is due to the oil, but that's the way it goes...

I'd need a thermo check on "sweltering" in CT...are you talking 90F? Thought that's quite a feat, driving 10 hours plus traffic in your car - I'm kinda sorta maybe sure mine could do the same, but wouldn't want to risk it until I get more work done on it.

"Sweltering" was the 90 outside and in the center of my black c4 it literally must have been over 120... But as far as temps relative to so cal, approx the same. Hot. And I don't know if I should attribute engine temps or not over heating to the oil...but as long as we are talking...I just switched to brad penn and am happy. And the car survived a long trip at 90 mph, and intermittent heavy traffic in summer heat...

Just my .02 on the oil I will get maybe two quarts at least just to set on my work bench in the garage as what P 91 said "We would All have to buy at least 1,just to score the container, after all it does have a pic of a 964 one quart to look at and one as a back up. Heck I spend more on a Sat night out and feel bad in the morning. One more thing to add with the collection
