thesamba.com is a pretty well known forum (and classified) for VW owners, mostly older air cooled models (with some water coolers).

Really?? What makes you think it "sounds like" it needs about $20K in work? The ad copy is below.

The seller listed a bunch of stuff that has already been done and claims to have already spent $20K on
sorting it out.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For Sale: My 1991 Porsche C4 Cabriolet. This 964-type air-cooled classic in Midnight Blue with Classic Grey interior has 72,324 miles. I'm the third owner, and have had it for the past 8 years/22K miles. It has been regularly serviced by a Porsche certified technician. I've put approximately $20K into the car, including:

• Upgraded Kenwood stereo with subwoofer (2012)
• New Shifter **** and leather boot (2012). New heater control head (2012).
• New antilock brake hydraulic pump (2012).
• New Clutch pedal assembly and clutch master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder (2013)
• New alternator fan hub, bearings, and fan belt tension roller assembly (2014)
• New AC/heater unit (2015)
• New starter motor (2015)
• New shifter rod and coupler (2015)
• New front brake discs and pads (2015)
• New alternator fan and pulleys (2015)
• New left intake boot assembly (2015)
• New turn signal/high beam/cruise control combination switch (2016)
• New right cam chain tensioner (2017)

I have the boot cover and Porsche top; all paperwork, manuals, and Porsche tools and jack.
It presently has a worn connecting rod bearing requiring work, and thus the significantly discounted price (compared to 964s of this type).

Serious interested buyers only, please.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know the seller, but to ME it sounds like a decent car at a great price.

LOL. Exactly.
Con-rod bearing. Only way to get to that is a complete rebuild but more importantly, what caused the excessive wear one bearing??

Interesting already off to a better start than that C4 coupe the other day. Although many questions and obvious needs with that one. There has been a trend lately to bid these cars up early so they don't go into a bidding war at the end. Although the turbo and C4 were realistically worth what they brought I would suspect the C4 at $40k might be a singer one day.

I want to set the record straight on this car. I had seen it up close and I can assure you my friend Pino did not paint this car. Not sure why the owner was claiming he did.
