oil leak
hi guys had the air box off and fan on the other side while putting rear shocks on and was alarm to see oil resting the top of the plastic engine cover were the inlets go in have had some smoke from rear passenger wheel well in standing traffic must be dripping when hot. Had inlet off today expecting it to be oil thermostat but was actually oil dripping from throttle body is there any other reason that oil would be there bar an over fill cheers ray

Starts w/ an overfill, but the gaskets at the base of the intake manifolds (where they meet the heads) are likely hardened and the oil weeps past them while making its way to the motor. If you remove the shroud, I bet it's all nasty and gunked up around each intake manifolds. Take a light and look down some of the manifolds and see if you can see the gasket coming apart and falling into the combustion chamber.

A little oil makes big mess Ray...all that air swirling around, so it could be from an overfill at some point. Clean the intake and keep an eye on it.
It could be excessive crankcase pressure due to worn rings but given where the oil fill line joins the tank its hard to tell if there is excess pressure by just removing the filler cap. Usually unscrewing the oil filler effects the idle if it is crankcase pressure related. A leak down test would tell you what's going on. Cheers. Rob

ok so finally had time to strip down the exhausts heat shields ect to get to the bottom plugs which have not been changed by the look of them on the last major service nice one indie so did a compression test with mixed results really this was on a cold engine and i now don’t know or trust that the valves were done on the last service so could be badly adjusted so looking from the back of the car left hand side 1 2 3 and right hand side 4 5 6

I would run the engine on 15w 50 not more than 2/3rds on the gauge then monitor how much oil is consumed. When you get the geo done talk those results through with the guys and they can easily do a leakdown on the suspect cylinders. If she is running fine albeit breathing a bit heavy I wouldn't lose sleep over it
