I know i have seen it a hundred times but when I need it cant find it! What is the pattern for putting the nuts back on the valve covers? Thought it was in Adrians book but either over looked it or it isnt there! If it is does anybody have a page number :-)

Hi, I ask here since I am 101% sure that this has been discussed already 2 million times but I am dumb enough not to find the right keywords to retrieve the thread.
Is it possible to operate the cabrio soft top with the engine on?
I understand that the factory solution is engine off and key turned, but I was wondering if there was some workaround to change it.

They look like they are 964-105-583-01. This part number are the studs used on the chain boxes to attach the covers (PET 103-05 #2).

Thanks Rob, but I believe the chain box studs are equal length on both ends, the old filter housing stud I need is longer on once side to reach through the body of the car.
I will probably order a couple to see if they work, but for now, still looking.
Any tips for attaching the gasket to the rear light of the 964 (full version of the gasket for <1991 cars). Im trying not to resorting to glue, but it keeps falling off under tension!
I have those on my 1990 car. They are very fiddly to install but once you get it installed, the tail light will hold it in position. I don't use any glue on mine. My trick is to install it on the lens, then start connecting it to the car and use my fingers and a Popsicle stick to push the rubber into place.

These studs for attaching the oil filter housing in the background? - don't remeber seeing these when I stripped mine down. Where or what part of the car did you find/remove them?

They thread into the filter housing in the background and that spacer in the fastener holds it so the grommets can go over it and between it and the bodywork.....as I remember.

Indeed, there needs to be sufficient enough stud length that accomodates passing through the inner wing itself. There is no individual part number for these studs as they are inherent to the bracket part 964 207 025 02. The 'spacer' part is to prevent overtightening and subsequent bracket cracking when the nut is pulled up inside of the wing (horrors of oil leaks at pressure!).
If the studs are damaged and not usable then it's not impossible to machine new ones - just need to be accurate with the spacer gap value.
