That's observation #1. This makes me thing it's not an idle control valve issue or an idle microswitch.

Observation #2, it still flashes when it's at idle and the tach shows no movement whatsoever. That I can't figure out.

I just had a thought. This problem occurred several months ago and I thought the solution was found when I removed the engine sound deadening from interfering with the throttle mechanism.

No CEL's, no issues with idle/return to idle.

I did swap out my wheels and did so by jacking the rear of the car up. The car was in an rear elevated stance for a good bit. Is it possible that oil sloshed around and got into the ISV? It's definitely not overfilled, but could having it on a slope have created a similar outcome?

Sorry for amateur hour, but WTF are these clips? They sort of look like jubilees but aren't. I'm trying to get to my ISV, btw.

Yes they are. I just cut them off and replaced them with regular clamps.

You can put the blade from a flat head screwdriver into the crimped section of the oetiker ear clamp and then rotate the screwdriver to loosen the crimp.

Thanks guys. I followed Jason's method to get them off and replaced with jubilees to put my new ISV. Cured the CEL, and honestly seems much more responsive than before, but I'm not above putting that in the placebo column. Now have an extra ISV that's been flushed with degreaser (there was some oil residue in one of the inlet pipes), but just happy that my CEL is cured.

FML. CEL came back on a quick drive to get some gas and fill up the tires. I was able to get the RPM to sort of "stick" while in 5th gear and the CEL stayed on rather than flicker on and off.

Can one clean the idle microswitch as I think that's one of my last potential points of issue with this...

Has anyone done the pulse sender (crank position sensor) upgrade/update to the 996 part?

996 606 105 00 is the new Bosch part, the old one being 911 606 217 02 (or 03?)

I think it just involves changing the plug from the old 964 unit onto the new 996 unit ... right?

(sorry search has not been friendly at all!)

Default Crank sensor

HiWind
The way I did it, was to leave the 996 part alone and change the 964 part in the wiring loom where the new part connects. Then had to make the 996 part fit into the metal bracket where it is secured. Just a little dremmeling! - either way, same result I suppose.

no light by the selector at least on a 91. Selector lights up in the tach. I believe 92 and up shows what gear your in.

thanks for that.

So no lights on the trip selector in the middle just on the tach display itself as this is working . can anyone confirm that has a 1992 before i try to pull apart and see.

Also does the light switch have a light in it so you can find it at night?

Thanks
