The silly little question thread ...

Can anyone tell me what the bolt (item 30) in the diagram below actually bolts into. When I got my car item 31 was missing and I though I would replace it. Having got item 31 and 2 x item 30 I can't see what holds item 31 in.

On older ones the were screws that expand plastic tabs that held that cover on. My handle was broken and ordered a new one the new one had machine screws and brass ferrules that the machine screw went into.

Thank you. That would make sense. It looks like my unit is missing the captive brass ferrules.

Is there an easy way to remove the oil pipe (#54 in parts; engine to oil filter) connection at the engine? It is obscured by the heat exchanger covers.
Thanks for all the replies.

I haven't done it yet but am planning to use an induction heater to heat the nuts only. It seems to be a more precise method than a flame, unless someone has a reason not to do it this way.

I haven't had much luck with induction heaters since they are so hard to get in there. I find that soaking them with a penetrating oil several times over a few days prior helps. If not then heat with map gas. If you brake them hopefully they don''t brake at the base. If there is some meat left I find these help in the right size. https://www.grainger.com/product/36T...!469717995576!
If it brakes at the head it is an expensive tool but well worth the investment but Steve Stomski makes a nice tool for drilling them out and tapping them.

I used penetrating oil and heat via a mapp torch. The induction heat would work also but I don't have one. Be careful not to rush and break the studs.
You will need a 6" long M8 allen wrench to reach the internal exhaust nuts and a swiveling 13mm socket for the others.
I bought a set of Snap-on wrenches and a swivel 13mm from Sears. Note, this was a few years ago, when Sears still had tool inventory in my local store.
