Project Shrek - Cold Shower - Rant
After 3 years of ownership, time came for inspection.
Swiss inspection. (cue in Dark Vador theme)
I let my mechanic bring it in, since he has much more credibility than me, having spent his whole career, over 40 years now, on 911s.
I knew that the brakes (993 calipers over 928 non-drilled discs with adapters) would be tricky. As for the rest, the wheels are 7in front and 8X16 in rear. The car has the complete original exhaust, has been raised very high.
So. He goes in. The expert starts with "wrong interior color. car modifed".
Huh???
Turns out that the inspection center hs now access to the swiss importer files, so they know the car was red with beige interior, and have the options list as well as the car's full spec as delivered.
What does that entail? For the inspector, modified interior means the seats have been changed and could compromise their strehgth and the seatbelt anchors. Mind you they are 964 sport seats in the car...
Next: "steering Wheel to small and too far from dash". Duh. it is an optional 964 small diameter Wheel with extension. "Not delivered on this car". But possible on a 964? "get us a certificate from Porsche".
Next: "Rear bumper non original". It is an RS part, factory piece with factory 964 part number. "not homologated on an '89 C4".
Next: "Car too low". True, 10mm too low according to the homologation papers. It looks like a giraffe on stilts, but is too low still. According to the homologation.
Next: "Wrong mirrors". Excuse me? they are wide angle options. "Yes but they do not have the E1 marking". They are from the Japanese or australian market.
.....
How it passed after that (and more) I don't know, but the inspector made it clear he could have thrown the car out many times over. Never mind that it steers, stops and handles bad conditions better than 90% of the cars on the road here. " It is not homologated".
I have another 3 years before the next inspection. I'm gonna sell this car. And the many upgraded parts I have for it.

George, I started a thread today 964, the slippery slope.
I was asked if I'm keeping the car as a UK reg or importing to CH. I said keeping UK reg. your post explains everything!

Wow, so strict!
You would laugh at the annual inspection my car goes through. Lights work, check. Blinkers work, check. Tires have tread on them, check. No emission testing either.
Last year I did fail the test... I forget to put my second windshield wiper back on. So they do pay attention.

In Switzerland some technical inspection centres are worse than others, e.g. the Canton of Zug is quite strict. Fach Auto Tech in Sattel prepares my 964 for the inspection in Schwyz and there are never any issues despite mods such as H&R coil overs, Ruf Speedline wheels, TechArt front lip and rear spoiler. On a related note, you won't find any deferred maintenance issues with my 964... Just needs a new paint job but I prefer to spend the money on keeping her in perfect mechanical shape.

My Ducati failed at SAN Lausanne on the brake discs being below the manufacturers minimum thickness by 100th of a mm, after passing a UK MOT just 4 weeks before I imported in the Switzerland.
I understand their reasoning, but its difficult to accept, when its passed else were.

Burning Brakes
at least you passed.
are you really going to sell it, because of this?
seems that, for the most part, you would just have to change the seats, steering wheel, and rear bumper to pass the inspection.
You could re-install afterwards, correct?
