Fuch wheel advice sought

2 Attachment(s)
Two photos of my 1990 C2 are attached. Although I like the Cup 1s on the car very much I've got a few extra bucks to spend on another set of wheels for the car. I've always been a fan of Fuchs and have enjoyed looking at the Fuchs wheels thread on the board.

I solicit the board's opinion regarding the best choice of Fuchs wheels for my car. I've seen the eBay listing for the company in Miami (Maxdiscountmiami) offering a set of new Fuchs with Michelin tires mounted for $5,995. But their feedback is a concern - nothing that I saw in a quick look that would indicate this company has ever sold a single set! And their other items listed for sale on eBay hardly inspire much confidence.

Any suggestions on the best place to source these new Fuchs wheels in the USA, if I decided to go that route? And if so, what style?

Or would you suggest that I get a set of the reworked classic Fuchs from Zuffenhausen in Charlotte? Has anyone on the board bought these wheels for their 964 and, if so, are you pleased with your choice? Any photos of cars on the board with these wheels?

Many thanks for any information, suggestions or opinions!

The Zuffenhaus wheels in standard finish look great on that red car!

Vagluv: I suspect I'll keep the Cup 1s. Hard to beat those on our cars.

Still interested in more info on the "new" Fuchs.

The Zuffenhaus are made by Fikse and they are definitely a quality wheel. Several folks use them and they are also the wheel of choice for Singer vehicles. Talk to Keith and he may be able to provide more info/pics for you. As for the new Fuchs, just order them directly from them and save yourself from the headaches you may get by dealing with shady resellers.

I like both but I think the new Fuchs give a more modern twist that fits the 964 better. Speaking of modern twist, I also really dig the PS Auto Art Fuchs.

Not much to know except forged, light and are made by Fuchs. Buy direct from the factory.

+1. $3100 shipped for a set of forged 8 & 9x17 with black centers, by the original manufacturer (Otto Fuchs). Good deal.

I'm leaning toward the Fuchs. I'm running 225/45/17 on the fronts, on 7" Cup 1s. Should I order the 7s or 8s for the fronts? I'm assuming the 8s, based on Ken's recommendation, but wanted to confirm. Thanks for all the help!

Mine are 7s and 9s. I run a C4 on 225/45 and 255/40 track tyres. Haven't seen any issues with the fronts at 7s but there may be advantages in running bigger rubber up front. I'm sure someone will chime in.

John:

I've got no desire to run wider rubber in the front - the 225/45s are plenty for me. So it sounds like I should order the 7s for the front, rather than the 8s. Sorry for all these newb questions but I am no wheel/tire expert by any means and don't want to order the wrong wheels. Thanks again.

Your car is a thing of beauty, BTW!;)

Thanks. It's become a quasi backdate, at least to those who know nothing about 964s and long hoods. It wouldn't fool a Porsche nut whatsoever, but I'm very happy. Just a bit of interior work and a lowering and it's there.

For those who offered advice to me, I wanted to report that I have ordered a set of 9x17 and 7x17 black center Fuchs wheels from the factory. Total cost shipped to GA was $3,120, which I consider very reasonable for a set of quality, forged wheels from an OE manufacturer. VAT waived, since the wheels are being shipped to the US. That covered the shipping costs.

I'll post some photos after I get the wheels mounted on the car. Thanks again for the help.

Please do, I want to see how they look on a white 964. Nice choice.

gray635 11-20-2013 04:41 PM

^^^^^ So do I!!! John McM's "backdated" white C2 looks mighty nice with the silver petals but I decided to go with what I thought was a slightly later look with the black centered wheels. I think that they will make a nice contrast and form a good "base" for my white car. We'll see.

I typically do not like black wheels but make an exception for the Fuchs. I remember how great the original 16" Fuchs looked on my old 1987 (white) and 1988 (Guards red) Carreras - both long gone but fondly remembered.

John McM 11-20-2013 07:48 PM

I don't think you will be disappointed whatever the colour. One thing I did take into account with the silver petals is the ability to Plastidip the wheels for different combos.
