Relation between throttle cable & cruise control cable & idle speed
Hello guys,
Another problem arose while trying to fix my idle microswitch. While trying to adjust my throttle cable so it will rest on the idle microswitch, I mistakenly fiddled with the cruise control cable by turning the black plastic part.
What happened then was while driving the car, out of the sudden the cruise control engaged & the engine rpm stayed at 2000 under load & at 4000 at idle. Note: I did not activate the cruise control stalk, it engage on its own after I stepped hard on the gas pedal. The CC did not disengage when I stepped the brake pedal.
I was able to lower the idle rpm from 4000 back to 800 by turning the cruise control cable adjusting nut. Does anyone how do all these relate together? TIA.

The cruise control cable will pull the throttle open. The cruise cable should be set to have zero slack but not to open the throttle. The adjustment is that plastic nut.
Glad you have it resolved. No harm done.

Thanks Rob, can you clarify by "zero slack"?
Idle RPM was at 1000 when my throttle cable was not resting on idle microswitch (IMS)
Idle RPM went down to 800 after adjusting throttle cable now resting on IMS.
Idle RPM shot up to 4000 when cruise control cable engage on its own.
Idle RPM back down to 800 after I adjusted the cruise control cable.
1. Does that mean I can adjust idle RPM with cruise control cable?
2. How do I tell if my cruise control is engaged or not?

The DME controls the idle, you cannot adjust it.
Not sure how to test the cruise control. I rarely use mine. The cruise will disengage when you touch the clutch or brake pedals.

One thing I've found is that the shielding on the cruise control cable will come loose and pull out of that black plastic piece on the top. When it falls back into position, it doesn't fall all the way back in, causing tension on the CC portion of the cable and giving the impression the CC is engaged.
With the engine off, open the throttle from the throttle area but keep an eye on the CC cable, especially that top area. See if it's falling back into position.
Here, I ran out to the garage to take a photo to illustrate what i'm describing.
