Default T-OBD + Scantool success but failed Adaptation (error 15 Idle speed contact break)

Hello fellow 964 Rennlisters,

I bought T-OBD from Tore B & successfully installed Scantool on my Windows XP laptop. Installation was easy & straightforward per Tore's guide.

The reason I bought it was to clear my airbag light & it worked and I was also able to clear a bunch of CCU errors and now my AC vents are blowing air towards me instead of my feet.

I highly recommend this relatively inexpensive tool for all 964 owners and I like to say thank you to Tore B & Doug B for the Scantool software.

When I connected to Motronic I got trouble code "15 - Idle speed contact break" of which I cleared but it kept coming back each time I re-connected. Engine was OFF but starter key was ON. Does anyone know how to fix this error?

Another problem is with engine ON when I clicked on "ECU Inputs" button, my idle is OFF. Shouldn't it be ON?
But with engine OFF then my idle is ON. Does anyone know which is correct?

And when I clicked on "Adaptation" & followed the instruction (turn off AC, engine temp hot), it failed (a few times). I suspect the error code 15 or my idle being OFF.

Is the car fully warmed up at operating temperature?

Hi Mike, yes engine temp indicator was pointing to 9.00 - 10.00 o'clock. I tried it like 4 - 5 times so engine temp rose from 9 to 10 & each attempt failed.

Idle RPM is 1000+ at tachometer (reading on Scantool is 1125). On cold engine, jumps to 1500 & hold then slowly comes down to 1000. On hot engine, starts to 1000 & stays there. Turn AC on, drops down to 800 & rise back to 1000. So idle is a bit high & I'd like it to come down to 850-900.

jorijori, I just connected my Scantool for the first time last weekend. I bought the tool used a number of years ago but have never connected it. Anyway, outdoor temps have been dropping here so I thought I'd try out the adaptation. While I had the tool running I looked around to determine it's capabilities. At Idle my Idle switch showed 'On' so I suspect you have a fault somewhere related to idle. Your idle speed of 1000+ is also much higher than mine. My idle speed is around 840-880. I have a LWF so that was my main reason for trying the adaptation. It completed in a short amount of time without failure.

I should also mention that your oil temp seems pretty high if it's between 9-10 o'clock. At temp my oil temp is normally at about the 7-8 o'clock position. Perhaps outside climate is a factor as I imagine it's much hotter where you are.

Hi Hal, outside temp was hot 35 celcius which translates to roughly 110 farenheit. In traffic engine temp is 10, on empty freeway then is 9.

Btw, I tried to adjust my Koni shock as per your guide but that didn't work either, turned clockwise 1 full turn, height remained the same but ride go stiffer so I reverted back.

Hi Rob, yes that is palm tree in the picture, good observation.

Is the config file setup correctly? (964 and not 993?)

After that, I have nothing. But if you contact ToreB, he will be able to assist you. Great guy.

Have you gone to the throttle body and made sure the idle switch is engaged when the throttle body is closed? You should be able to hear switch click as soon as you push the throttle off idle. Push the throttle all the way to WOT and you'll hear a identical click from the WOT switch on the opposite side of the throttle body.

All of this w/ the car turned off.

Hi Vandit,
Where is the TB, is it attached to AFM?
So when I press the gas pedal & I should hear it inside the cabin the switch clicks?
Do you have picture of the idle switch? I think this could be it.

Hi Mike, yes file is set up to 964. I ran the batch file per Tore instruction, thanks though.

The switch is right behind the throttle pedal.

EXCUSE ME I was wrong! It was the break switch.
