RSR 3.8 - 1994 IMSA GT Title Winner
(The information and pictures below come from Maxted-Page*)
1994 IMSA GT Title-winning
1994 Porsche Carrera RSR 3.8
Chassis #WPOZZZ96ZPS496081
The Carrera (964) RSR 3.8 was a limited production racing car, conceived by the factory for GT racing in 1993 and was immediately competitive and successful with outright wins at the Spa 24hrs and Nurburgring 24hrs, Interlagos 1000kms and class wins at Le Mans and Suzuka 1000 kms. From late 1993, the 3.8 RSR became available directly from the factory to special customer race teams as a turnkey race car.
Powered by a 3.8 litre normally aspirated engine developing circa 350hp. Depending on the rules for ADAC, BPR, Le Mans or IMSA, air restrictor plates had to be fitted to limit the horsepower output. The RSR used the same 5-speed gearbox as used in the Carrera RS, with 40% limited-slip-differential and with gearing selected for a top speed of 265km/h (165 mph). The body shell was reinforced at many points and stiffened by a welded-in roll cage. The external recognition feature was a special rear wing and wide Turbo wheel arches covering Speedline rims.
Chassis #081 is one of the genuine, 51 factory-built Carrera RSR 3.8, ordered via Porsche Special Vehicle Dept and supplied directly for the 1994 IMSA GT season to USA-based TEAM SALAD RACING for owner/driver Mark Sandridge.
- This full race version RSR 3.8 was delivered new in Grand Prix White and fitted with optional centre-locking wheels and air-jack system to order. It retains original equipment, including a Type M64/04 air-cooled twin-ignition race engine. Five-speed gearbox geared to 265 km/h, racing clutch, limited-slip differential, racing suspension, big brakes, ABS and original Speedline 9’ and 11’ x 18”rims (included separately). The car is fitted with a fully welded - IMSA regulation roll-cage, racing seat with six-point harness and fire-system.
#081 competed extensively in 1994 without any major accidents in the IMSA GT series and notably was a Class winner at Sebring 12hrs and Watkins Glenn, 4th overall at Daytona 24hr and then finished the season in 1994 as the IMSA GT2 overall title-winner.
This successful car is offered complete with all original factory order paperwork, and genuine manufacturer’s statement of origin.
An ideal opportunity to acquire a fabulous and genuine 1994 Porsche RSR race car, with excellent investment potential and growing eligibility for future BPR revival events and other series which are sure to follow soon

Very cool thanks for sharing.
Although the factory info I have says the power rating was only 325hp.

Understanding Porsche is always conservative where they offered with different HP levels or was there just the one and it was more than stated. I have all the factory ordering documentation and paperwork and there is no mention of different HP options other than 325Hp.

Do not know/remember what internals it was running.
Walter Gerber would be the guy to talk to.
It's funny that I never questioned the dyno numbers. 100 hp per liter from a race motor did not seem all that exotic.
We were seeing that in the 1970's with the 2.8/3.0 RSR's. If I remember correctly a 3.0 with slides was making 330hp. (trivia question)

Good memories
Unbelievable it is already 20 years ago when the first picture was taken in Daytona! Harald Grohs, Bernd Mayländer, Frank Katthöfer, Mark Sandridge and myself, good memories!
Hope to see the car soon in a historic event!

I remember that car well, the paperwork I had on my RSR's I believe said 350hp and I will check and see if I can upload it. FYI the engine shown has the Thielart sprint parts incl slide valve, prob sprint heads with ti valves cams and higher CR pistons too. That package was 408hp on my dyno and pretty reliable for sprint races with 25hr max. Great cars, great engines.
