Default Wind Deflector Hinge Replacement

Has anyone had to replace the Wind Deflector Hinge on their sunroof units?

One of mine has broken and needs to be replaced. Is it hard to do? Anyone have a link to a DIY?

I didn't really look to hard at it yet, but wanted to ask first... this time... I have a habit of doing first and asking questions later... trying to change...

It's a pretty easy DIY.

Open the sunroof, then unscrew these spacer bars which slot into the sunroof tracks. This is necessary to release the plastic arms for the deflector. In this pic I've actually got the whole sunroof unbolted, but this isn't necessary for just replacing the deflector parts.

A few more screws, and the whole thing just lifts out.

The hinges and the arms are the only plastic bits to replace, and it's pretty easy to work out how it all comes apart.

The only thing that is worth mentioning is that the new hinges snap in place quite precisely, so try not to force it too much. Some past thread recommend getting a third hinge in case you break one of the new ones, but as long as you're careful and get it all aligned before you try to snap them in place, you should be fine. A little plastic-friendly lithium grease on the moving parts (the aerosol stuff is fine for this application) is a good idea too, otherwise it can all squeak.

Then it all screws back together in a jiffy

The hinges are probably the "lowest cost" factory parts you can buy......at least for me they have been over the past 15 years of ownership!

Nice. Thanks for the help. Yep. $7.95 each from Pelican. Not too bad.

I just had one of these break over the weekend. It finally stopped raining for a day so I could open the sunroof!

I think I'll order a couple spares...

Thank you very much for the detailed instructions and photos. I had to file a little ridge away before being able to clip the new hinge into place. I now have a working wind deflector for the first time in about a year. Thanks again Babalouie.
