Default Oil quality and grade

Hi guys ,
I am getting ready for my first engine oil change, I would like to hear from you what type of oil and grade you are using , I live in an area where the climate is quite mild, around 10 degrees in winter and 30/35 in summer

Thanks

Motul 300V 15V50 or "Green Oil" Penn 20W50 with Mahle filter. I use 300V since 2008 with good luck.

The previous owner used Mobil 1, so I will continue with it and my local shop recommended 15W50 grade.

Motul are french and you won't go wrong with Motul 300v 15w50

The first thing is to find an oil that gives you the pressure and temperatures you want, some of that will be due to the weight, and some the quality of the oil. Depending on the condition of the engine and cooling system each car will be slightly different.

Obviously there is a compromise between protection on track under severe conditions and "cold start" (even 35 centigrade is cold for oil) protection - "normally" most of the wear on engines does occur during cold start. For a normal "shopping car" the cold start wear is the dominant factor and oils are specified by manufacturers accordingly (usually 30 or 40 weight), this is not so much the case for a track car that spends hours running at 110c oil temps which is where 50 weight oils come into play.

The most popular three options are below:

1. If you don't mind spending money: Brad Penn
2. Equally as good but a little cheaper and you can pick it up at your local Autozone: Valvoline VR1
3. If you are cheap but a still good alternative that you can buy at Walmart: Shell Rotella

I personally have used Valvoline VR1 on all of the air cooled 911's I have owned

Shell Rotella T6. Not exotic, not expensive, but good nonetheless.

Mobil 1 10w60 here.

15w-50 300V; nothing better for air-cooled engines.
