So, time for a bit of maintenance.
I would have loved to focus on the aestetics only, but this car is made to be driven, so a bit of mechanical TLC is needed.

I was quoted $2500 for a service at the local OPC. This included brake fluid flush, oil change, spark plugs and valve adjustment.
Well, thank you very much, I'll give it a try in my garage.

This is what the old oil filter looked like.

The previous owner must have cleaned the area with paper, and forgot about it.
I was a bit shocked.

I popped the distributor caps to find this..

No wonder the old girl is running a bit rough..
Guess I'll order a set.

So I proceeded with the valve adjustment. This is my first time on a 964, so I'm curious to see how it ends up.

I found a couple of nasty leaks under the engine. This is under the Power steering belt. A bit strange, seeing I'm not loosing any fluid from the reservoir.
Any ideas? Could it be an old leak?

This is the same area:

There is an oil (return?) pipe here, Could this be the culprit?

My plan is to clean the entire underside of the engine, and then use the car for a while to inspect for leaks.
But It would be great to sort out most of these leaks while I'm doing all this work right now.

That oil filter, wow, WTF! Terrible. Hopefully there wasn't any permanent damage.

Could that paper have gotten in somewhere else and been sucked into the filter??

It will go like the clappers when your finished!

CV boot replaced, CV Joint refreshed and repacked.

Oil Pressure sender o-ring replaced, still waiting for a new sender.
While I was in there, I decided to clean out all the gunk from under the intakes, and also wrinkle coat them.

Sorry for the lousy photo quality. More pix coming soon.

Now waiting for:
K&N filter
Rotors/Distributor caps
Spark Plugs
Brake Pads

Well, It's been a long time since I updated this thread.
The car sat in my garage all winter. Apparently my re-seal job didn't work all that well, so there is a puddle underneath the engine still. I lost a bit of motivation, so I started with refurbishing the interior.
Honestly I've never been a fan of the green leather and green carpets.
So I bought a big bottle of MidNight carpet dye, and went to town. I also dyed all the green leather with a kit from Dynamix.

Before:

During:

The carpets went from ugly green, to a darker green. Kind of in tune with the exterior color. Well toned down. I'm happy!

Here is the door and side panels:

Oh, and I'm working on refurbishing a set of Recaro Pole Positions.
The original cloth cover was worn out, so I ordered a couple of new sets.

Cool. I like the new green. What kind of covers are you getting? I'd like to do mine someday. Where did you find them?

Remodelling the house, new job, URS6 Daily needing work.. you know.. life gets in the way some times.
Doing a compression check/ leak down test to see if I'll drop the engine for a re-seal or rebuild.

Default Update!

Well.. time for an update, I guess.
Last post was back in 2016. Wow.
It's stil not back on the road, but progress has been made. Crazy to think I've owned the 964 for 6 years, and driven it a total of maybe 200 miles.
Oh well..
In the summer of 2018 i was evicted from my rented garage, and forced to move the 964 to the family garage. With 3 cars, there was no space for all of them. That led to me selling my Audi URS6 daily, and resorting to public transportation, and borrowing my girlfriends car from time to time.
Here is a picture from when it was removed from storage. Note the inch thick layer of dust.

After a proper detailing job, it looked like this.

I acquired a set of cheap and worn 18"s from a local porsche-dude.

Yes, they are 8+11x18 with some fairly worn rubber. I decided to refurb them myself, in my garden man-shed.

Then, I went to work on the engine. (again)

Pulled the Alternator and fan assembly, and with my newly acquired Kärcher steam cleaner, I went to town.

Yuch!

Now thats more like it!

Replaced the alternator, painted the shroud and fan, and re-routed the spark plug cables behind the shroud.
This happened during late summer/autumn 2018.

Fast forward to 2019, and being freezing temperatures in the garage, I am being forced to do some mods from inside the house.

The original H4 headlight.

A vw golf mk2 aftermarket crosshair headlight

Clear lens from a '59 vw bus

Et voila!

I'm excited to see what they look like on the car. If I don't like it, everything is reversible, and I can put back the original reflector.
Next up, the tacho.

Hello

Finished

Still waiting on new LED bulbs, for the instruments, and I plan to change them all.

Also happening right now: Pics coming!
New brake discs and pads for the front. Waiting on new dust boots for the calippers, before a lick of paint.
New front oil cooler. I pressure tested the old one, and that had a bad leak in the bottom.

I bought a sowing machine to finish the cushions for the Pole Positions. Not being satisfied with the original fabric, I'm making some new covers with black Recaro font on them.
Will post some more pix asap. I probably forgot some things i did over the last 2 years.

Thanks for your interest!
