I had to set the car lower then the lowest safety stop on my lift so I can get the ATV jack to support the engine. So I used jack stands to support the lift arms. You are right in that you never want to use the hydraulics to hold the car in static position. It is only for lifting and lowering. There are two static lift points on the MaxJax (wish there were more). I retrospect I should have got the low cost bendpack which has stops every 3 inches.

Ok folks, I finally got a Porsche tool 9191 (Sirtools P237) by borrowing it from Sundog locally. So I am unblocked!

I started on the left side:

Review PET and Volume 1 of the Workshop manual, section 15 to educate yourself first.

Porsche special tool 9191 (Sirtools P237) holds chain sprocket while you loosen sprocket bolt with a ratchet & 19mm socket (not shown in photo below)

I will post the cleaning, Loctite 574 application, and re-install in the next few days.

Thank you so much Ricardo. Can you do this without factory workshop manual? Eventually I'm going to follow you footsteps too (actually my mechanic).

Well done for that! The Golden Spanner for best DIY pics definitely deserved ... along with a spotless floor after the most spirited of drives

The workshop manual has excellent exploded views of this area of the car, along with torque settings, and other considerations upon assembly and dis-assembly. In addition it shows you how to set the timing if you were to turn the crank while the chain is off the camshaft.

Via the workshop manual I learned about the woodruff key, the small roll pin used to lock in the timing, etc. What the shims behind the timing sprocket are for... It just helps you understand what's going on so no stupid mistakes are made.

When you review PET you will see all the little gaskets and o-rings you will encounter and can order ahead of time. On my car every gasket and o-ring is fresh except the ones I am replacing in the cam chain housing.
