Default The 964 engine bay is ugly

Ok guys, time for a reality check. I just spent a year cleaning up my engine, thread here, and its back in the car, super clean and, well, this is one ugly engine bay. Except for the main engine cooling fan on the alternator nothing looks good. It's just a jumble of wires, hoses, and tubes.

I know, who cares, but that's why we respond so viscerally those photos of the Singer engine bay.

Am I the only one that feels this way?

-Coil-on-Plug = distributor delete
-Rear blower delete
-Power steering delete or electric pump in front tub
-A/C delete, not viable in hot climates for a regular use car
-Upgrade induction system (GT3 manifold, ITBs, etc.)

Yep, it's ugly and badly designed!

It's the biggest letdown of the whole car. I hate opening the lid when newbies want to look at the engine.
It's all oohs and awes until the engine is exposed and they everyone goes silent...

I agree, the stock look is very cramped and crowded. Eliminating some of the "comfort" options like heat, AC, power steering and cruise control simplifies the look tremendously.

Kai - Love the look of yours but I drive mine daily and "need" the heat, AC and power steering. Never use the cruise.

You know, it's funny. I just noticed my SystemOne oil filter...nobody's ever meitioned it.

It is STILL a pain in the *** to do that job...typical German thinking in that corner.

Its all the crap up top that the worst of it. I don't mind the heater blower or the A/C. Singer has the A/C but they rerouted the lines from going over the top.

I think the engine bay beautification programs didn't kick in until the late 90s on most cars. Of course most now have big plastic covers. I just love looking at hot rods and then the pop the hood and the engine looks just as sweet. Not so much on our cars.

You could just cover it all up with a big 'ol intercooler

I think a clean 964 engine is stlll lovely to look at. Ricardo, with an A/C delete and blower bypass, you'd be much closer.

Sorry I dont get it, what you are looking at is unique in the automotive world.
If you prefer then go buy a water cooled car then feast your eyes on two plastic caps...one for oil...one for water plus a BIG plastic cover with PORSCHE written large? No ta.
