Would adding a be good advice to follow, or do we need a specific brand/formula for our cars?

These were what mine looked like when I had the top-end refreshed 9000km ago. I have no idea what oil the previous owner was using. The cams needed some attention, too.

New cams absolutely need reground rockers. I have had cams hardwelded and reground without ever a problem-YMMV.
It's also worth noting that pitting damage can and is caused by hydraulic fracturing. Though the lessened ZDDP has exacerbated the problem it was around before.

Three Wheelin'
I had Dougherty/drcamshafts regrind and parkerize my cams and resurface/rebush the rockers. Price was reasonable. I think that he's a one-man shop, so wait times vary. Mine took a little over a month. My last valve adjust was with 9k miles on the cams and all the lobes still looked perfect.
