Default Carbon Fibre UK - LWS

So rewind 2 years and I'm about to purchase a carbon bonnet. Performance Trim were the place to go for anything carbon in my view (i.e. they weren't complete rip off merchants like some of the others...) and this is where I'd planned to place my order. But when the moment finally came they'd gone under :-(((

A few months later, one came up on ebay, I bought it. Said bonnet then arrived damaged as the seller thought two bits of bubble wrap would suffice even though they had the audacity to charge me £40 for p&p. So, frustratingly back to square one...and cue a monthly google search: "for sale Porsche BBS E88 or 964 carbon bonnet".

18 months later, something magical happened. LWS popped up in the search results. So I gave them a call. It turns out that they had taken on Performance Trim's moulds and some of their expertise, and were in their own right already popular within the VW and Lotus circles for carbon panels.

After a quick chat with Andrew I was confident that they would be able to deliver something that had eluded me for ages, and finally I would have a critical piece in my lightweight jigsaw!

And it is with a massive smile on my face that I'm writing this as it arrived when I returned from Spa. It's a beautiful panel, superbly made, and is feather light (~3.5kg).

Fitting will happen nearer summer time when I get a few other bits painted so I'll post more pics back here then and comments about shut lines etc.

But in the meantime, if you're looking for carbon parts (bonnet, roof skin, sunroof panel etc) in the UK, then LWS are the people to chat to - super communicative, sensibly priced, and go the extra mile to get your order to you safely. No affiliation, just a very happy customer!

Looks lovely, it will be good to see the fit on the car. 3.5kg is a great weight.

I presume this is them:

Nice!! Website says 5kg which is about 15kg lighter than a steel hood. You could go mad and install a Li Ion battery and save another 15kg...it all adds up

Just got a lithium battery for my race bike , there are amazing , but careful , they can only be charge with a special lithium charger ... Otherwise you damage them straight away ...
A cut off is a must as well ...

Good points. They are still relatively expensive but as they gain in popularity over the next couple of years I think the prices will drop

Jokes Grant - hope the hornet comes back stronger than ever! Its testiment to you how great you're being about the little bump...A class act to follow (not literally, like into a wall...but YKWIM ;-) )

Wished id changed into some funky nikes rather than having my slippers sprayed on there...next time!

Anyway, feel free to spread the carbon news far and wide!

The lithium batteries are not so expensive , well not much more than the Varleys or Odyssey...
It actually doesn't like trickle chargers either ....
