Frank, what about a 993 C4 set up? 6 speed gearbox and it's 50kg lighter than the 964 system. Probably cheaper to buy used than a 2wd 6sp box too...

Anyone experience with this I'd be keen to see a thread on this?

Yup will be getting lots more pearls of wisdom from you.

Well the issue is the 31 (I imagine) is very rare/ expensive what with it being a 993 RS box?

I also understand that it is identical to the /21 (early 993 ROW box) apart from 1st following a chat will Bill?

As for the /30 what car was it assigned to?

Interesting point. Never seen that done before - I wonder about compatibility? Also what are the ratios in the 993 C4? Is it lighter than the 993 C2 boxes?

Not sure if the ratios differ from the 2wd box. I saw someone did it to a blue 964 in 911 & Porsche World years ago. I think he had to change to a lot of 993 suspension parts, but then that could be quite interesting in itself...

It's a good idea Stan, one that we have implemented on a couple of occasions. The 993C4 set up will halve the weight difference between a 964C4 and 964C2, it will reduce the inherent understeer due to the "on demand" viscous coupling to give more neutral to oversteer handling and finally will provide a closer set of gear ratios from the 6 speeds for faster acceleration. Hence it's a great choice for someone wanting to maintain the value of the C4 badge on the engine lid.

The gearbox is a direct fit, the torque tube and front differential the same. You will obviously need to delete the 964C4 hydraulic control system (much as you would with a C2 conversion). Not so obvious will be the adapters required to connect the 964 front drive shafts to the 993 differential, the 964 having larger joints than the 993.

This is very interesting; Would you have some more information about such an upgrade you have executed before, with pictures? (Start a different thread?) Or alternatively the cost of such an upgrade when executed by you? (Assuming you do that by remark before)

Many thanks in advance!

Here' the list with the most 'desirable' at the top,

/30 993CUP & 993RSR - too rare/ too expensive.
/31 993RS & 32 993RSCS - too rare/ too expensive.
/21 early ROW 993 - more realistic and it could be rebuilt to a /3X spec.

And obviously LSD would be a must. Big thanks to Bill.

Nope G64/ 21 (AWD) or G50/ 21.

Thanks for the info Colin, brilliant.

We've done a couple of conversions but at the time never thought to catalogue them with photos, in fact one of the cars done was a 964C4 Celebration with a 500hp 9m single turbo engine conversion which we fitted a complete 993 turbo drive train into. It worked well, ideal combination. As for costs, couple of days work plus the parts I suppose? If anyone is interested I do have a customer with a spare 993C4 front diff, drive shafts and torque tube, contact me via email for a referral.

No more to add, I'll let you all get back to BB.

6speed makes a more useful car, but you can have a closer ratio with the stock gearbox but on highway will probably be a disaster.

on the other hand, if you buy a F355 I'll be really jealous. My dream is to own a black 964 and a dark grey F355 in my garage. obiusly something like a wagon car for my wife and for "family" traveling.

The 6 speed conversion transforms the car,
