Default Installing the new Exhaust System

So I got the new complete exhaust system from FVD, and it is stunning looking.

I started taking the old system off this weekend. A lot of old seized bolts/nuts. The hardest part was taking off 3 of the nuts from the headers on the drivers side. Had to go buy a 1/4 in swivel attachment for my 10 mm socket.

Then the bumper needed to come off to replace the left side of the rear bumper with the one with the cutout for the dual exhaust.

I've attached pictures of the old system, a lot of weight, and rusty oily mess. And one of the new system, with and without cats. Really nice looking. Impressive welding, and all polished. The inside of the headers shows a very nice blending of the 3 incoming tubes.

Tomorrow I'll get the gaskets and continue with the assembly.

Default Nice!

What an opportunity to get some weights. I see that you were already running a cup pipe. I am looking forward to listening to a sound file, a video with drive by, with and without cats...sorry, but it if it sounds half as good as it looks, you are going to be one grinning dude!

Today I got all the necessary gaskets and ran into a it of an issue. The exhaust seal rings between the heads and header fit into a recessed cylinder in the head. But since the engin is in, they just fall out. There are three per side, one for each cylinder. So I can't get them to stay in until I get the header on. What do people use to keep them up until the header is on. I considered silicone gasket, but the temp was only 400 F and I don't want residue.

I used a good sized dab of anti seize lubricant. It has just enough stickiness to hold that gasket I also used on the heat exchanger studs when I put the exchangers back on.

Excellent. I had the jar out, and wondered about that. Good heat resistance.

I want to verify that the new exhaust won't blow sound at Laguna Seca before selling the old parts. I'll keep you in mind.

Just use a couple of dabs of axle grease on the rings. It will hold them in place while you get the headers on. Works like a third hand. Make sure your rings are new or you may have leaks.

Yes, they are new rings. The old ones looked like part of the head, so I had to use a tool to help them out.

sundog any progress or feedback of the FVD exhaust?
I am about to spend some cash on this system and need more info before I do. Could you let us know what you think of the system overall? Sounds, fit, ease of install, performance and quality built.
Hey a sound clip would be great too,..

Thank in advance for any comments you may have.
