Once you have everything apart, I would blast it with brake cleaner. Its a simple casting once you remove the thermostat mechanism.

If you need the full list of parts, see PET page 104-05. PET is the factory parts catalog. Its available as a free download.

Thanks Rob. I’m loading my cart now for the thermostat rebuild. Another question, I am I correct in assuming that I have a faulty thermostat since the oil lines exiting the thermostat were still cool to the touch when my gauge read close to 10 o’clock position.

Not necessarily. Mine triggers above there, then the temp drops to 9 o'clock when it opens. I think you'd be wise to try and get the temp a bit higher before pulling parts.

If it helps, this is gauge/thermostat/temp info I gleaned from Pelican and other sites then assembled for my own notes:
  • At approx 87C (188F) oil thermostat opens for flow to front cooler.
  • At approx 100C (212F) or 09:00+ position oil cooler low fan speed operates.
  • At approx 115C (239F) or near 10:00 position oil cooler high fan speed operates.

* Reading at the 10:00 (@248F) position is not unusual when tracking a car

Oil temp gauge graduations: 50oC (122oF) 90oC (194oF) 120oC (248oF) 160oC (320oF)

Ok I’ll attempt to get the temp higher to make sure the thermostat is inoperative before I replace it. How much further would one go before feeling confident the Tstat is inoperative? I thought is was pretty high where it was.

Not much further than it is now. I wouldn't go over the last white marker before the red zone.

Default Strange blue o-ring

Does anyone know what this blue o-ring is for. It came in the same bag as the circlip.

Bonus o-ring I don't see anything in PET near the thermostat that corresponds to the blue o-ring.

That uses an aluminum washer.

I seem to recall that the oring is used to seal the blanking plate that is secured with the cir-clip. So assembly order is o-ring <- blancking plate <- circlip.

Edited to add: Ah you mean the blue oring. Hmm no idea. Wasn't present in my kit when I brought it.

Somewhere, someone in Porscheland is wondering there that darn blue o-ring that is clearly on the list of parts is.
