Default 964 '73 RSR Clone

Looking to pick up a 964 for a backdate project. Any particular model better then another for a longhood RSR clone build? Widebody vs narror body car, 2wd vs 4wd, etc? Also, can anyone recommend a kit that works best on the 964? I realize that things will have to be relocated, etc. Also, any steel body part options? While fiberglass is light, i feel that for a street car, steel is probably safer. Thoughts? Thanks Guys!

I bought my 91 Tip last April to backdate , but then chickened out.Apparently it has to be steel for a better finish, otherwise you'll spend much more time to have the fiberglass look right.. But I'll be following the thread closely in case useful tips come along...I truly believe a pre-74 look 964 is the best car one can own/driver!

You can do steel for the rear flares and FG for the front fenders. Much easier to get FG front fenders to fit vs a quarter imo. You can still buy 930 flares from porsche that you can weld or the aftermarket has some steel options as well.

Steel all around is going to be big $$ but yes the results will probably be better. That being said I've seen a full on backdate with fiberglass everything in person and it looked incredible. Its all in the fit and finish at the end of the day from you respective body shop.

Here are a couple of great threads off pelican on backdates. Lot's of good reading and options here

I spoke with TRE on using a 964 for the conversion and they quoted around $100k. Supposed to be a lot of plumbing that has to be moved around and reconfigured since longhood front and rear bumpers expose a lot. They have me looking for a 3.2 now but would much rather use a 964 base. Thoughts?

I am sure that if you did a crazy build it could cost 100k, but this would have to be a complete restoration with a backdated dash and engine bay.
