Does anyone know if you can drop the whole front suspension unit off a 993 and then bolt same up to a 964 without any major issues??? Are the mounting points the same ???
This would be the complete cross section off a C2 to include suspension, uprights, steering rack, master brake Cyl, and brakes.

Hi Gus. I don't know if this will help you, but I recently replaced my uprights with 993 evo uprights without any problems per se. If you don't have an all wheel drive situation I think at least the 993 uprights will shoe right in. Since my car is AWD it is a little different but overall I had no problems. I did the conversion about a year ago and documented my problems doing this. You might want to do a search here under "evo upright" to read any snags I came across. Ive had a few glasses of cabernet so don't exactly remember but I'm driving my car so I think it will be ok for you. Good luck

I sort of remember that when switching to 993 Big Reds on a 964 you need to run 928 rotors to get the wheel offset correct.

So the basic question here is whether or not the 993 front subframe will bolt up to the 964 unibody.

Judging from all the top mounts sold as 964/993 units, we can assume the 993 strut top mounts would bolt up to the 964 unibody just fine.

I don't know about the master cyl, but the uprights, control arms, brakes and steering rack will bolt on. On my 964 when I had it(sniff) I put on 993 knuckles, steering rack, calipers, control arms and pinned tie rods. Actually livened the front up a lot, felt great. These were normal 993 knuckles, so I had to use 993 abs sensors also(oriented 90 deg different than 964's), 993 turbo calipers, 993 turbo 2 piece rotors. The difference between the 964 control arms and the 993 control arms is the pivot stud for the ball joint. The 964 is a smaller stud.

yes it all transfers from 993 to 964, biggest issue is the brake line conversion at the m/c
you will need
m/c 993.355.910.00
vac can 993.355.023.10
gasket 993.355.301.00
support 993.355.163.03
and have some brake lines w/ 10mm 964 end at the chassi and 12mm 993 end at the m/c, You can have the lines made up by Classic tube or use a BMW 10mm/12mm fitting

You won't need the subframe but it will transfer over too

If you only do the brakes you have to use 993 rotors and wheel carriers or if you use the steel 964 wheel carriers you use a caliper adapter and 964/928/968 rotors

Let me just add that when keeping the vacuum boosted brakes the subframe isn't needed.

If you are changing from vac boosted to electro-hyd boost as used on RS and C4 then you do need the subframes, if you have a C4 or RS you already have subframes that work fine

Thanks ALL for the great feed back, fantastic info and good links. Looks like it is a direct bolt up with one issue at the MC fittings. This is / can be solved with BMW 10mm / 12mm fittings - Is there a part number or is this stock item at most BMW dealers??
The unit I am looking at has the MC and steering rack attached, rest is hub to hub - the 993 up-rights and brakes will be used. Will keep my front shocks.
Will there be any issues in the 993 sensors effecting the abs -??

BMW 6mm to 10mm line adaptor, 34-32-6-752-405, 10mm to 12mm fittings
Classic tube can make up the lines w/ the correct end too.

I need to look ABS up but as far as I can recall the tooth count is the same but the parts are different, so you use 993 sensor and 993 ABS wheel in 993 upright,

use the 993 A-arms too, they are lighter and use the 993 ball joint, it's best to use the 993 strut as well as these are correctly setup for the 993 wheel carrier 12 & 14 mm bolts, 964 use 2x 12mm bolts on each side

Correction

I misremembered the ABS tooth counts
993 uses 48 tooth wheels
964 uses 45 tooth wheels

you want to use the 964 wheel w/ 964ABS
