Default Trolley jack specs

My old 2 ton has stopped working and in any case was too high to use on my lowered 964. Looking for another low entry one. Will a 1.5 tonne do or do I have to go for a 2ton? just for changing wheels and so on. I have fixed stands once the car is up..

I use this sears jack and am happy with it.

They occassionally go on sale.

Edit: Woops! You're in the UK . . . do you have Sears over there?

Our 964's weigh approx 3000 lbs. You want your jack to be able to lift at least than half of that (1500+ lbs). I have one that lifts 2800 lbs and its never had problems. I also have a 2 ton jack that I use a backup.

The 1.5 tonne jack should be sufficient capacity.

FWIW - This is my jack and highly recommend it. Its pricy but I love it. Low profile, high lift and easy to use.

i've been using a 1.5 jack on mine but I only lift one side at a time instead of using a lifting bar to get the whole back up in one go.

keep dreaming of a scissor lift...

I love my low profile jack form Northern Tool. The long length makes it a bit challenging to use in a small garage, but that's about the only drawback.

I also got a great value Omega 3 ton jack from Costco a few years back for a similar price. Gets under fairly low cars but not as radical as the specialist ones.
