UK Insurance - Agreed Value
It's come to that time of year again where I've had to renew Porker insurance. I've been given the opportunity to fill in an agreed value form, but was a bit unsure about what figure I should put down...
My car is a 1990 C2 manual, with around 86k on the clock. Now I know that the prices seem to be on the up and you often see cars up for £20k +, but are they actually selling for that?
At the end of the day a car is only worth what someone is willing to pay. I don't plan on selling, I'm just thinking of how much would it cost to replace it with the same, if the unthinkable were to happen.
Some of you know the car, but to give a brief background, the bodywork is all in good order with only the usual stone chips on the nose and is rust free. That said, I don't know what you'd find if you took the wings off, but it hasn't had much exposure to the wet stuff over it's latter years.
It hasn't had a top-end rebuild and does have a bit of a wet **** which I will more than likely address this next year. However, after a discussion with my mechanic, he suggested that it's arguable whether it actually needs one. The 64 pulls well, maintains good pressure and the level doesn't drop much. The rest of the mechanics are good - if something needs doing, I generally do it. So all in all, not an immaculate example, but I'd say a pretty good one.
What do we reckon I should stick down then?

Not sure on the insurance company you're with, but im with ClassicLine.
When I took up my policy they required an independant valuation for anything over £20K. Anything below you had to complete a form yourself and send them photos of the car.
Just in case you need to take this into consideration...

Cheers Chris. I'm with Adrian Flux and so far they've based the figure on 17k which is what I said it was worth last year. They haven't asked for an independent valuation, but perhaps that is why.
I never did get round to filling in the form previously, but just figured it would be worth doing this time round. Otherwise if there was a full loss claim, they would just give what they perceive is market value.

My insurer (RH Specialist Insurance) needed an independent valuation. If you join a club (e.g. PCGB) they will do it for free.
I'd have thought that up to about £20k was a reasonable guess for an agreed valuation for yours. A bit less perhaps if it needs a suspension refresh.

I just took a classic policy with Classicline based on recommendations from Rennlist and have filled out my form for 19k, which is what was discussed when I took out the policy. As Chris said, anything over 20k requires an independent valuation. Not that I considered that in my valuation. I would class my car as A1 with a respray and a concours level, new interior; plus god knows how much in new brakes, suspension etc. . However, it has 117k miles on the clock, so the market dictates the price; amazing how so many 964s seems to be losing mileage recently . I think if my car was totalled ( cat A/B ), I could find another quality 964 for 19k.
By the way, definitely give Classicline a call. Footman quoted me £370, Classicline £270 . Of course, Footman then matched the lower price, but I don't like those sort of games and stuck with Classicline.

I'm definitely with you on the insurance quote games - why can't they just give you their best price in the first place, drives me mad!!!

I know, annoys the hell out of me. I was warned by a family member that works for Aviva to watch out for the small print in best match quotes. If they say best match on the 'phone and you accept, make sure the policies match like for like and that you keep a copy of the original competitors quote. You may need that as proof if you need to claim. All typically sneaky.
I wouldn't call my entire car A1; wish it was. 19k sounds like a fair price for your car, plus yours is a C2 which the market values more. Of course C4 is better to those that know... blah, blah.

what a coincidence, just did some research as it's time for my renewal as well
had a quote today with CL,
5k miles, garaged, 250 excess , Porsche club track days, other track days +75 £, 2 drivers, EU break down for £447
and for 30 K value £ 530,
was with RH but I don't think they cover for track days...
anyone knows an insurrance that gives over 90 days EU cover ??
