Hi Alex , I like this mod too ,
It's probably drilled to vent , but is that going to make it weak....?
And you need to create a reverse light if it's a road car..

Yes, exactly that - the reverse light is easy enough to get round but the big question has to be about whether it is ok to drill a series of holes through the crossbeam?

I too have though about this. Perhaps there is another option avoiding this if you are running with a cup pipe. Drill two large round holes in the rear tinware and duct to the underside of the area behind the reflector. You'll be able to loose the small heat protection piece (1) and vent that way.

You could easily gut, sand, and paint over your current center piece to make it look just like the Getty one. Wouldn't even have to gut it really, but for those that like to have the light weight.

Could also make one just like the Ruf piece if you want to spend the time to do a little measuring, cutting, and glueing.

I've actually been thinking off making something similar to the Ruf piece. But I'd like to also have the fifth brake lights in it.

Seeing those grill versions though though, those look pretty good. I like how one had the brake light inside it.

Yep, that's an alternative Rob - good thinking.

Digging a bit deeper I found this which I believe is a DP car & I guess answers the question fairly well. I wouldn't imagine they only drilled through one wall to save a few grams. This exactly what I had in mind - Drill around 6X or 8X 1"dia vent holes and replace the rear reflector with a mesh.

It would be nice to see more than one example though.....

Al is awesome to work with. I sent him a 964 decklid to try to create a perforated grille for our cars but it just wouldn't work on an exchange basis due to the way they are installed. I wouldn't hesitate to have him make a center panel replacement. Actually I hadn't even thought of him as an option for that. I wish I still had my old one as I'd offer it up as a mold.

I'd be very interested in a ruf style one, with provisions for the reverse lights.

I'd be interested in the mesh grill with the light in the center.

Thanks Al & no disrespect as your grill looks nice but I made my own grill for my ducktail so will probably do the same for the reflector replacement.

If I make a pigs ear of it I'll call in the pros but it was easy enough last time.

does your grille fit on a standard spoiler as a replacement ? Think the existing grille is one piece attached to the spoiler?
