930 rear flares on 964 nb
 

can 930 or slantnose rear flares be welded onto a 964 narrow body to build a wide body 964? are the 930 flares the same as 964 flares? would slantnose rear flares weld on work with 964 wide body rocker panels (center skirt)? just trying to get ideas for building a wide body look 964. i've done a lot of research on the forum but couldn't find direct answers for my questions. i know this topic is not for the traditionalists! thanks for all input!

Yes, 930 flares will fit the 964 tub but you will then effectively be left with a 930 quarter panel that does not have the fixings for a 965 turbo sharks fin sill cover, which is great if you are building a 3.0RS replica but not so hot for a turbo 2 look alike. The quarter could be further modified to accomodate the cover but then you have to question why you are not just fitting a 965 quarter panel. Finally, if you do the maths on the full widebody conversion, don't forget to allow for the new sill covers, rear bumper corners, front bumper, front under spoilers and wheel arch liners since they all differ from the standard 964. Costs a lot to do this conversion properly and parts are very expensive.

I've seen track cars with exposed fasteners attaching the rockers and shark's fin look good, but they can look bad too. I think they were attached over pre-964 body work/flares. Good rockers are the key but I don't know what your best bet is there.

thanks for all the input! ninemister, i have considered most of those parts. i did over look the wheel arch liners. can you provide any detail in how the shark's fin attaches to the quarter panel? by the way, i love your work! i definitely want to make a clean looking wide body and don't want to attach body components with external fasteners.

I have done exactly this. A decent body shop should be able to attach the shark fins without too much trouble - I know mine did. Be warned that the arch liners are ridiculously expensive.

I've been thinking the wide-body direction too. Just not focused on the car at the moment. A 'local' (Seattle, wa) shop that has done the conversion before gave me a 16k-18k quote. They would weld on the flares.
