Default inner 993 (RS) tie rod in 964 steering rack ?

Hi everyone,

I am preparing all the parts to do the bump steer upgrade...
there is one thing I am confused with;
does the 993 inner tie rod bolts in the 964 steering rack ?
is there any difference inside, (apart from the length), between the normal 993 and the 993 RS / EVO inner tie rod,
well I suppose the RS may be shorter than the EVO...

thanks

Konstantin

Yes, the 993 and 993RS track rods will bolt into the 964 rack.

and

Yes, there is a big difference between the 993 and 993RS track rod assemblies. The 993 track rod bolts down onto the hub assembly from the top whereas the 993RS bolts up from underneath; the arms have different angle of bends to achieve this.

There is also a third version of the 993 arm used on the GT2 Evo and 993 Cup which does not have a damper at the inner end of the arm. I'm sure Bill will be along shortly with part numbers.....

Thanks Colin !
I thought there are 2 types of inner tie rods , I will have to make up my mind between the the RS or Cup and think what's more suitable for a road/track car

993347031
Standard ends 03, RS 81, GT2 80

You can unscrew the ends and use the centre section in any option.

You cannot just buy the centre section in any option though so you will have 2 ends to sell to a 993 owner!

Ok thank you, I understand.... It's sold as a complit assembly ( inner & outer) Minus the rubber boot....
So from what I understand , there is no difference to the inside of the INNER TIE ROD of 993 & RS, but the CUP & EVO is different ....

Yes, that is my understanding too. If you arent changing the uprights or carriers then the pinning mod maybe the best way to go!

993.347.031.03 stock 993 outer & inner, most compliant rubber bush on the inner, for use w/ stock wheel carriers only

993.347.031.81 RS outer & inner, stiffer rubber bush on the inner, for use w/ RS wheel carriers only

993.347.031.80 Cup/RSR outer & inner, mono-ball bush on the inner, for use w/ RS wheel carriers only

the GT2 has a wider front so they use a longer inner w/ the RS outer, my GT2 manual lists it as 993.347.031.02

Gert used to sell the Cup/RSR w/ mono-ball set, probably still does, it works fine for street use

OK, when I say GT2, they are motorsport items so maybe "cup" is a better description?

What has prompted this change/upgrade?

Are you also altering the front uprights and/or geo settings?

I thought the pinning mod only applied to 993's as 964s dont have the rubber bushing in?

Freedman,
Yes the pining method is for 93 & RS, not for 964, not needed for 93 CUP/EVO.

Cheeksyboy,
For better steering fell ( cornering, braking) I will probably us the 93 RS uprights, but I will try something else before, retaining the 64... If it works I will keep you updated, with pictures....
Geometry needs improving by checking the rake & give as much as caster, and I try (for C4) a fraction front negative toe....
