Anyone install 993 coils in 964? Pics?
I was wondering if anyone has eny experience installing the 993 coil set in a 964 and what challenges it presented. Anyone have any pictures of it installed? I assume they use the same 964 coil wires. I am thinking of settling this coil issue once and for all and just buy a 993 coil set. Thoughts? I am just as tired of posting about coils, as most of you people are about reading them! Haha.

I just ordered the 993 coils in order to do this and will post a how-to when I figure it all out. You are welcome to beat me to it.
I also ordered the plastic 993 coil covers.

Well, there is one big problem with this I just found out the hard way. The coil connectors on the 993 and the 964 are different.
So even if you make your own bracket you are going to have to change the ends of the connector on your Beru wires. They are supposed to unscrew and then you would have to screw on the 993 coil connectors. At this point I am not sure I am going to want to do that.
Now I don't know what's better, keep using my 72k mile made in spain black coils or change out for new silver Brazilian ones.

What part is different? The actuall coil wire connectors to the coil? I know that the 993 coil mounts on the back of the car, near the blower tube on the back part of the car rear of the dist. In tha area other side of rear tailight I was told. That is why they used shorter coil wires than 964. I will keep investigating.
I know a guy with a 993 coil, so I will try and get it to see whats up.

The mail and female parts of the connector system that connects the coil to the coil wire is different. Download the 993 PET catalog and you will see the connector ends are different part numbers on the plug wires to the coil.

Pictures attached.
The 993 coil (black) has a positive male connector in the recess while the 964 coil has a female cup shape at the bottom of the connector.

Easiest just to get the 993 lead from a dismantler, should only be a few $$? or have new leads made up at a decent auto electrical shop
Rather than change the fittings on the end of your 964 leads at least

993 leads are really short due to it's mounting location. So would have the take the coil end off the wire and put it on the 964 longer wire or mount the coil pack in the rear like on a 993. I definetly think this is worth investigating.

Yes, you would have to unscrew the 964 leads and then install the 993 ends.

I recently installed a set of new leads with the engine in the car; doing it this way pretty much requires taking the connectors off to run the wires.
After an initial hesitancy, I found it to be no big deal at all- would not hesitate to try and get the 993 connector for a swap if I could verify that the 993 connector would in fact unscrew like the 964 ones do.
