Default 930 vs. 965 vs. 964 RSA

Dug this old topic up from 2010 - Exact same thing I'm contemplating now. Just looking for a current opinion(s0.

"For you 911 gurus out there, how would you rank the 930, 964 RS America, and 964 Turbo based on the following criteria?

1) long-term value retention, assuming same condition and mileage for all three

2) ability to offer driving thrills as a weekend fair-weather car for country back roads. Maybe 1-2 DE's a year

Value: 3.6 L 964 turbo, G50 930, RSA

I prefer normally aspirated cars to drive. You my feel differently.

i'd suggest a standard 964 but then the cash savings on a few decent mods ... it would be just as much fun and probably go faster than a stock 964 turbo or 964 RSA.

1) 964 Turbo
2) RSA because you'll have more fun on the track.

I dunno you guys- I think the 930 will retain value better than a 965. They already command a premium, no?

Reversed for drivability though!

IMO less is better except for the 930 which is a little too coarse. So:
1) RSA
2) 930
3) 965

Now based on your same criteria but not limited to these 3 fine cars I'd go with a 993 C2S

For value 965 for fun RSA or C2. Although there is nothing like a 964 turbo under full boost the N/A cars are just easier to drive and are more involved. Since you plan on tracking it occasionally stay away from the turbo it will take far longer to master at speed and is far easier to get in trouble with.

There is no right answer but if you can't decide I recommend one of each.

Actually no. The 3.6 Turbo is becoming quite rare and is still far too new to show its true value. I estimate there are less than 250 left in the US and fewer every day. Eventually the 964 turbo especially the 3.6L will IMO command crazy money but we are still a few years away for that. The 930's IMO have hit their ceiling on value unless you have a supper rare optioned low mileage example.

I agree with a lot of what is being said. I prefer a NA car and you don't have deal with all the Turbo brain damage. However, nothing holds value like an air-cooled Turbo car.

obviously claudia would be faster than a stock 964 turbo ... but that is probably $75k of mods.

for $10k of mods (wheels,tyres,suspension,brakes), i think they would in the ballpark of each other ... but the nice tight 964 naturally aspirated would be more fun.
