Project Shrek - Steering wheel extended hub
 

I have long legs. Loooong legs. I already moved the seat to the rearmost set of holes on the supports, and it is frequently at the end of the travel.
This means that the steering wheel was grossly out of reach with the std hub. I sourced an extended hub (optional on the 964), which helped quite a bit, but I could use more.

Enter my friendly machine shop, my calipers and drawing skills. A layer of leather on it, and it will be perfect. I retain the collapsible hub, the horn wiring. I also minimise the risk of pushing the wiper stalk into "frantic" during spirited driving.

Somehow that just doesn't look strong enough.......

Which part??? If you mean the bird cage, it is in *every* 964 without airbag, in fact in every 911 since 1974. bone stock factory part.

George - I bought the spacer from Atiwe, which has helped a little bit but I would prefer more if possible. What part number is the birdcage?

And what are you going to do about the gearknob? I find that this spacer will fix the steering wheel issue, but then the gearknob will be too far away? (unless you have super monkey arms?)

The birdcage is an integral part of the steering wheel with extended hub option. You'd need to find a complete wheel with that option (same splines as on the 944/968), and take its extended hub and fit it to your steering wheel.
As for the shifter, I approached the issue this way: when the seat is correctly placed in relation to the pedals, the gear lever is within easy reach for me, but the steering wheel is too far. The extended hub optional steering wheel helps a lot, but I could use a closer steering wheel, hence the extra spacer I had made.

Finished, leather covered, assembled and fitted back in the car.
I have lots of tight curves and hairpin turns where I live/love to drive; this modification allows me a better hold on the steering wheel and more precise inputs.
