So, if I wanted to replace the Design 90's
What is an economical alternative for 17's? Cup, Twist?
The tires on my car only have 6k miles, but I want to plan for new wheels/tires.
Thoughts, ramblings, warnings, useless information?

Mike,
There aren't to many choices and the few choices that are out there are expensive...
RH, Veloce, CCW, Some Cup 1 wheels if you can find them...
Go to Tirerack or Wheel Enhancement to see what is out there for our cars...

I want a Porsche or replica wheel that can take a Porsche center cap.

Ya,,,
The bad thing is that our cars are getting older and there are slim pickings out there......Look into Veloce or RH...I looked around for a while and I decided and basically confirmed that I was going to get the Veloce's........

That is them...It also accepts the factory center caps off your D90's....No mods necessary for 18 inch wheels....Perfect fitment no rubbing.....made (sized) specifically for the 964....They are still German made, but not as expensive as RH.
You can contact them without going through ebay.......They have a South Carolina location......I actually got someone on Pelican also who bought them at the same time as I did....

I have the max that you can go on the front and back...Everyone with 18's are at this size...basically standard....
Rear are 265-35-18
Front 225-40-18
I have Pirelli P Zero Nero's.
There is no rubbing on the rear with the oil lines as well....
Plus you can see mine if you wish before buying to see what they really look like and to see the quality.....
Call me if you have a chance 732-947-7212 cell.

Three Wheelin'
Lots of great choices, some take OEM center center caps, some don't: BBS, Fikse, Forgline, Work, Kinesis, RH, etc... First try and figure out if you want a mesh or spoked wheel, both look great on a 964.
If you want to take a ride in a lowered 964 on 18s just PM me.

Other than D-90's of course, I think that CUP I's look best on a 964. If you are patient you can probably find a set on Craigslist for $500, or if you are in a hurry they can be found for $1000 to $1200.
You do know that once you have 17" wheels you'll feel the need to loose the flag mirrors?
EDIT: In all seriousness I like the look of D-90's and Flag mirrors. I think your car looks great as is.
This thread will give you some ideas:

You best bet is probably a 17 Cup wheel.
I bought a set for 300 with almost new snows on them. It was a winter set for this guys wife's car which was totalled with the summer tires one the car so he just wanted them out of the garage.
It has always been my understanding that 18s are a little iffy at best to run on a 964.
A lot of it will come down to the off set if you get outside wheels not made for a 964, especailly with 18s . You will not have a lot of margine of error.
Notwithstanding, the Cups just look right for the car.
Expect to pay a bit more for tires though.

If you run 18s you will want to upgrade the steering brace to the 993 model, On backorder from Porsche but there is a guy on the 993 forum making some nice ones up
