Perished Rubber Shroud

1 Attachment(s)
Hi, Post number two.

I have been trying to work out what part this rubber fan shroud plays, mine has a large hole in it and it not connected to the plastic tube.

Does anyone know,
1) is it vital to safe cooling of the engine, i'm sure Porsche wouldn't put it in if not?
2) what its called so I can try and source a replacement

Thanks

I just replaced mine last week. Got it at Sunset Porsche in Oregon for $48 shipped. Thats $25 less than Pelican or eBay. Got it in 3 days. All it does is direct air to the top of the motor and the alternator.

In similar vein, I replaced that a couple months ago. It will not mate to the heat blower intake; the join keeps separating.

Any intel?

Did you take the bolt loose on the airtube near the blower before connecting the rubber part? Its a lot easier to connect them with some play in the plastic tube. after connecting finish bolting on the shroud and then put the bolt back in near the blower.

By chance, do you have a 993 blower? If yes, there is a retrofit mod to the bushings under the 2 bolts. I don't remember the details but you shorten the bushings by 6mm. Once you do, then the blower mates properly to the shroud.

The details are listed in Adrian's book. Pages 475-476

Renewing an old thread. Any tips or tricks that I need to know about replacing this piece. Mine just started to break apart.

Also feels good to be back. Have been gone for some time. Had some upgrades done finally to my car, so she is going good.

It takes about 10 minutes to replace. You just remove the 3 bolts going into the fan shroud, then pull out the old rubber piece. Installation is the reverse. Just be sure to fully attach the rubber to the heater fan.

("baa, but -- HONEST -- last time I looked, it was all there!) :icon501:

Latest version has obviously bigger rubber blend-in area than ('93) OE.
Wonder if the elastomer has been improved, longevity-wise? That'd be nice.
