Weaker gas struts/dampers for light bonnet / hood
Hello chaps!
I've fitted a lightweight bonnet and the old gas struts are a bit too strong.
Is there a ready made solution i.e. weaker struts... or do I just need to find
someone who has a really worn out pair.

IIRC the RS with the aluminum hood did not have the gas struts, but a rod that you put in place to prop up the hood.
I did a search and found this picture.

Hi there Richie, just to let you know that I bought a set of front and rear stays from Seine Systems in the US for my 964 C4. They are made of carbon so are very light. I have fitted both to my car as I was fed up of the originals being useless. The front stay uses an existing bolt to attach the base to and the tip locates into a magnetic cup, which can be glued in place on an alloy or carbon bonnet. The rear one is more complicated to fit because of the spoiler mechanism etc., but I have successfully fitted one to my car. I was thinking of sending for say 10 sets or so and maybe becoming an agent for Seine systems in the UK. Let me know if you are interested? Cheers. Brian.

Thanks for all the responses and offers. Really apreciated.
I had seen the RS type prop / rod, but I really wanted to retain the ease
of use of the gas struts. Weight isn't an issue (the fibre glass bonnet I've
fitted is more for styling than weight lose - will post lots of pictures when
the projects complete).
Also, I like the idea that the hood is pushed up with even force from both
sides, especially as this would reduce the chance of distortion if the composite
hood were left in the open position for a long period. My panel currently lies
fractionally beneath the line of the adjoining wings, so a little pressure from
underneath, when closed, would be perfect.
I'm currently thinking about giving these guys a try:

If I have any luck, obviously I'll post the results.
Thanks again for everyones input.
