Default Is this the best 964 book?

Is this the book i've heard mentioned several times. It has sounded like this is a great book to get. Worth buying?

Yes, Adrian's book is the go to Bible for 964 owners. Its not perfect but its a terrific resource. Adrian used to actively participate in this forum a while ago.

I also recommend the Bentley book:

I guess it depends on what you want to know.

It is probably a good supplement to:

The Factory Service Manuals
PET
Bentley Service book

which I would get in that order.

I'd agree, Adrians book is more of a light reading info book than a hardcore reference book. I had big hopes buying it and I wasn't very impressed. I'm used to the Haynes and Bentley service manuals for VW's and Audi's and while not a fair comparison I felt there was too little hands-on info.

Thanks guys. Probably what I need. More informative with some DIY projects. I am not really good with mechanical stuff so this would be great. Hope Santa will get one for me.

A really good (and relatively cheap) book is Wayne's Dempsey How to Rebuild and Modify Porsche 911 Engines 1965-1989.

Even the factory manual isn't as good as explaining the 911 engine and its rebuild as Wayne's.

Maybe it's ok for the Carrera 2 and 4 but as far as Turbo info goes, it's got some pretty serious errors in it.

It's OK and I think you should have if you own a 964, but....I often get a feeling of missing the info I really was looking for. Like, at the end of a paragraph "here comes finally the answer.....no, it didn't..."

PET and "without guess work" is a good combo if you want to work on your car. Adrians book is more "about" the 964 and nice to know.

It's a strange book. But if you see it as a light version of the Workshop Manual it works. It's easier to find what your looking for and the pictures replaces PET if your standing in your garage in the middle of something. But yo have to know what you want to do, you don't learn anything about "how to do " things. I mostly use it for tourqe specs.

I find a combo of all of them, coupled with rennist and pelican forums, has been invaluable. Cuz when you need alot of info about any one problem, you never have all the info in one place. Each one has it's benefits, but I've just found every problem to be slightly more complicated than the solution in the book/s...So basically, if any of you want to write yet another book, I'll stand in line to buy it. The shelf is growing. However, if guys like Marc, Babalouie, et al, keep up with the documentation, those books will get dustier by the day...Good job all...

There's no doubt about that; I became a paid member after saving a zillion dollars in the first week I owned my car. The forums are indispensable.

My wife got this for me a few years ago and I hadn't opened up for a while. But now that I setup my garage workshop and am actually working on the car I find this to be an excellent reference manual for torque specs and just easily accessible exploded views of parts with names. Helps me understand what people are talking about. When I started my valve job I had to remove the secondary muffler and I thought, "which one is that?", with this book I went to the exhaust system and quickly reviewed a diagram of all the parts, nicely labelled.

I use Adrian's book, PET, and the Guesswork book. I need to setup the factory manuals on my garage PC. I run Macs in the house.

And a big YES to this forum being a key part of my ownership experience. I recently bought an old W108 Mercedes Sedan and quickly found out the internet support/forum for that vehicle did not really exist. I think I big reason I sold that car almost a year later was my inability to have my network of support. Whenever I get stuck in the garage, I just type a quick search into Rennlist and get the answer very quickly.
