why do the 1980's 911 sell for more than our 964?

That was the case about three or four years ago. 964's were significantly less expensive than earlier cars. I was not aware that it is still the norm, but I haven't been following prices on 3.2's.

One explanation is that the 964 had a reputation for expensive engine leaks. Search for head gasket and you'll probably find all the info you need. It's my opinion that this issue is exaggerated. I would take a 964 over just about any 3.2 any day.

From what I've seen, the gap is closing here as 964 love is starting to grow and availability of nice examples is less than with 3.2's.
