Default 7.5's & 9's mag. or 8's & 9's cup rims

aside from weight, how do these set ups compare? tire make and size, spacer issues, handling, etc..

Tire sizes are the same, for both combinations the recommendation is 225/45-17 and 255/40-17 (even if 205/50-17 was the original front size).

7,5 and 9 is a plug&play combo, for the 8 and 9,5 you will need spacers of at least 21mm for the rear (simply because the 9,5 rims have an ET of 68).

Car handling is very much influenced by weight, the 8 and 9,5 combo is significantly heavier, therefore you feel a difference.

Nevertheless the mags are to expensive to drive them on a daily basis.

Have fun

Stefan (with 8 and 9,5 for daily use)

Thanks for the feedback.. I was thinking of going with 8's and 9's. I haven't seen any 9.5's for sale recently and the idea of spacers that large as well as the longer wheel studs required is not something I want to get into..

you could use spacers with bolts instead of mounting longer wheel studs. H&R sells both versions.

The wider wheels look great and offer great traction with the correct camber.
Have the Cup Cup 1's on the N-GT and the Mags for the Touring.
Prefer the wider rims by far!

This is the sort of info I was hoping to get.. So with the N-GT, are you running 8's and 9's or 9.5's?
Also, what tire and spacer sizes are you using?

964 Cup used 8ET52 & 9.5ET68, the rears used a 21mm spacer which reduced the ET to 47 so what you want is 8ET52 & 9.5ET47 wheels

for 9" rears you want ET55

you can even squeeze 10ET65, w/ an appropriate spacer

tires depend on what you want from the car, for a street car 225/40 & 255/40 can be used w/ either 8 & 9 or 8 & 9.5 but you can go larger w/ either set of rims, up to 245 in front and 275 in back.

for performance you want to use the widest wheel that is speced for a given tire, for comfort and cost you want the narrowest
for a 225/45 x17 the wheel spec is generally from 7 to 8.5
for a 255/40 x17 the wheel spec is generally from 8.5 to 10

lastly you can use various widths as a tuning tool, say you have 8 & 9 w/ 225/45 & 255/40 and want to get better turn in performance, by changing the to an 8.5(if it fits) turn in w/ the same tires will be noticeably better

Hi Bill, Thanks for responding. I've seen the thread regarding max tire/rim sizes for c2. Have it bookmarked and have read it a few times over. I'm a novice and hesitate to comment on handling characteristics, as it's all subjective..but the car feel light up front particularly when I'm going into a downhill turn. Feels like it's skipping around a bit. So 8's and 9's are what I have to work with now. Thought wider up front would help. Not to mention aesthetically the 205/50s just don't look right.

What I'd like to know,.. are 8's and 9's w/ 225/45 and 255/40 a good and safe combo?
And what would be the best spacer sizes for this?

As far as camber, I'll let my trusted mech. figure that out.

yes, 8ET52 w/ 225/45 x17 and 9ET55 w/ 255/40 x17 are nice safe fits, you can go a tire size larger fairly easily at both ends, if you want more front bite an 8.5 ET54 w/ 225 or a 235/40 on the 8ET52 would help a lot and still be a safe fit
