Default Q: Replacement 'Door Panel Seal' (plastic membrane) quality?

I'm asking about the plastic sheet stuck to the inside of the door, behind the interior door trim. 911 531 889 00

If I buy this part from Sunset or Pelican how does it stick on?

I took the trim off the passenger door today to do some maintenance on the door handle and found that the factory 'Door Panel Seal' had shrunk since 1990, pulled away at the bottom, and was allowing some water intrusion. There are water stains on the masonite of the door card and one of my speaker terminals was slightly corroded.

This was not unexpected; I've owned mostly older hardware and figured I have to make a new one from visqueen. Got everything in stock, even.

The thing is, the factory part was really nice. Heavy, good shape, good adhesive.

Pelican has new ones for $50, and while I could make one I'd probably rather buy a pre-cut peel-n-stick if that's what's on offer.

Thanks!

Only buy OEM - I bought a cheaper one before and regretted it as it did not fit and it was just a sheet of plastic (not peel-and-stick).

Is the Porsche part peel-n-stick?

Porsche part is not only peel and stick, but the plastic can be gently heated to mould it, if required i.e. so that speakers sit in the palstic and not through it. Not sure if originals did that when the cars were new, but the Porsche items now do.

+2 on buying OEM. Like Marc I tried copies which were no more than polythene sheets. Complete waste of time and money! Here's what the Porsche ones look like (the rubbish aftemarket one is below the real deal):

Well... I went the aftermarket way (only just found out now since it was not a peel and stick)... didn't even know it until recently (it was a leftover from my C3 parts bin).

The aftermarket one from Pelican is thick, strong and can be stretched a little. I attached it with double sided tape (very thin). It does the job, but it was a pain to install outdoors with wind. It has pre-cut holes and all I had to do was line them up.

Think about it: it's a plastic sheet designed to keep water from splashing your door cards installed in a place nobody will see. I can't complain of it.

Maybe....but I'll bet that you don't have so much a problem with rain, snow and generally horrible weather as some of us do.

Very good point... I wash my car once a week myself and drive her straight after. That's as much rain as she ever gets. Maybe I'll order some original ones for when I move to a "wetter" climate.
