964 engine out without ramp...
I'm about to start my DIY engine rebuild ...So I need to get my motor out but I have a few questions - any advice?
In order to get the car high enough to drop the engine/gearbox do you need to raise the front on stands first?
If you remove all engine peripherals on top of motor inc. alternator etc with engine in car first do you need to jack it so high?
What are the best places to jack from? or indeed the best method to get the car high enough?

My advice is to jack up the car, putting the car up on 4 jack stands, set as high as you can. Put the stands at the factory jack points. Also remove the rear bumper. Once you have it, you can then drop the engine & tranny as a unit. When I do that, the engine is about 3-4" too high to slide out, I then use a 4 foot long 2x8 placed under the body and I jack up the rear of the car with a second floor jack. You can then slide the engine out from under the car.
Here's a picture of my car before we removed the bumper and dropped the engine.

Yes, my technique is to lift the rear of the car via the engine, place jack stands in the rear position. Then jack the front of the car via the hard point of the lower a-arms. This allows me to put in the front jack stands. I then repeat those steps to lift the car to my jack stands max. I tried going to the max in one step but the note of the car touches the garage floor before I reach that point.

Hi
I got the engine from my 993 out without removing the rear bumper or jacking the front of the car. I did remove the fan and induction first though.
Best of luck
