Default Lowered 964 vs. my driveway

My car still has the original U.S. ride height (which is why I haven't done a proper intro, we're a little self-conscience). I was all set to lower on H&R Greens with Blistein HDs. That is, until I took some pictures of the car pulling out of the driveway. A little too close for comfort, and most likely preventing me from lowering?! Besides "Move", does anyone have any ideas on how to deal with this? I really don't want 10" square x 1" tall wooden 'ramps', but don't have any other ideas. Thanks~

Swing out wide into the lawn before you pull out into the street. Enter and exit at an angle.

Driveway wins...

...on 16" rims.

All the excuse needed for getting those 17" rims (AND ride height adjustment) you've always wanted?
(Call it your "$1,000 alternative" to moving!)

Any way to change the grading of the driveway? Won't be cheap but cheaper than moving.

Seems strange that the asphalt extends all the way down to the road. That will be the big part of the problem. You don't have a steep/tall enough transition to stree level. Roads around me have a concrete step-type curbing at the bottom of the drive so we don't have this kind of issue and we can approach a driveway, one wheel at a time if needed.

It looks like you'll be fine...
When we bought our house, this was essential to fit my lowered car. I come in/go out at a sharp angle making sure each front tire touches the road / sidewalk separately...

wouldn't 17" wheels get me only an extra 1/2 inch? (slippery slope indeed) Wheel math makes my head hurt.

I have been trying all different attack angles but there is always some corner of the car, that is gets a little too close. the top of the 1st photo, higher end of the driveway has a little less dip.

Before we added/extended asphalt into the street gutter, the dip was insane, everything 'cept SUVs chinned themselves. We're weren't even suppose to extend at that, so as not to interfere with rainwater drainage.

I'm afraid to lower and then scrape the crap out of the bottom each and every time.

So 17" and be sure to pick a good line/angle... (thanks) any other thoughts?

Isn't the overall diameter of a 16" rim plus tire going to equal a 17" rim plus tire?

If I'm pulling into someplace questionable I pull in at an angle. I'm not sure if your drive way is wide enough for much of that though. Hydraulics maybe?

yeah, you're right, I was thinking the extra inch would raise the lug holes 1/2", but the center is the center. guess I gotta move or totally shave the driveway.

The center of the street is higher than the edge where it meets the driveway, (most noticeable in last picture) so as to make a good gutter for rainwater.

17" wheels with the correct size tire does not give you any height/clearance advantage, the tire will have a lower aspect ratio.

Saw this in another thread yesterday: Griot's Driveway Bridge. Haven't used it, no affiliation, YMMV, tax, title, and insurance not included.

That's what I do... but I still scrape.

So to make it easier I may widen the base of the driveway (ie. jack hammer some of the curb Easier then regrading

Looks interesting. That is what the asphalt extension is suppose to do, the center of the road and slope to the sides is really what causes the dip. I don't think it would on top of the extension.

Maybe I go in another direction, perhaps 953?

I think I try wood (2x4s or 10"x10"x1" squares) for starters and work my way up

Have you tried reversing out? I scrape mine if I come out forwards, but if I reverse the car out it's ok. Failing that, there are kits you can get that are an air cushion you can put on top of the front springs that is connected to your spare tire pump and battery which allow you to adjust the ride height of the front of the car. The one I read about was also tied into the ABS system so that at 30mph it lowered itself back down again! It was on a 996 though I think, but perhaps worth investigating?
