Default Added cat bypass, should I update Wong Chip?

I installed a Cat Bypass (purchased here, in the classifieds) about a month ago and am very happy with the results and I plan on keeping it. I also have a Steve Wong Chip in my car that is the 93 octane/primary bypass model.

The question I have is should I send my chip back to Steve for a revision to the Cat Bypass model?

If I receive a resounding "Yes!" then that will be my project for the afternoon.

thanks

I think you should email him. I asked if I were to put my cat back on, would it be bad for the cat-less version of the chip. He said no difference other than the hp loss due to the cat.

I just sent Steve an email. I'll let the thread know what he says.

this topic interests me because my PO installed a cat bypass, Big Bore Throttle body and MAF sensor and I have worries i might be running lean and could bennefit from a Wong chip.

Hi Bmohr,

One of the main reasons I am sending the chip back for updating is he asked me if my car pops (similar to a backfire but not as explosive) when I downshift while slowing down because of the Cat Bypass. Indeed it does! He said this was a symptom of running too lean and that the update will solve that.

When I told him I was running a primary bypass and cat bypass together he told me thought the update would be a good idea.

Steve is not what you call a high pressure salesman so he didn't overpromise anything but I could tell he felt that an update would be worthwhile. Hence the 'chip is in the mail' back to him.

Good for you Mike - glad that you're going through with the chip reprogramming. Please let us know how it works for you, or changes things. I may be interested in something similar at some point.

I'm in a similar boat but in reverse... I already had the cat bypass wong chip but now I've added a primary bypass too. Not sure if I should bother updating

Don't mean to hijack, but I installed a SW chip a few hours ago and I just love the difference in drive-ability. Got the 91 bypass/muffler chip. Will definitely be sending it back to have it reprogrammed after I get my headers.

Pops while deceleration - Check! lol. I thought this was just a symptom of the cat bypass and leaks associated with the connections. Either way, it seems a SW chip is in my future. Now i just gotta scrounge up a few hundrend bucks

I will report the results of the new chip hopefully this weekend. I overnighted the chip yesterday and requested and overnight return after the flash.

The upgrade sickness is clawing its way deeper and deeper into my psyche. I just ordered some new front rotors (sebro) and pads (metal masters) for this weekend as well. My front rotors have a pretty severe lip and I need to stand on the brake pedal to really get the car to stop hard.

I've done enough DIY on the P-car (replace shifter bushing, valve adjustment, all fluids, plugs, Bilstein suspension, motor mounts, fuel filter, strut brace, distributor caps, rotors, ignition coils, redyed seats....) in the past year that I've developed the confidence to do the Inspection II on my 2006 BMW 330Ci convertible. It bought a kit online for $241, going to the dealer in New York would cost me $1500.

Of course the 'saved' money is going into the P-car!

Hey Mike,
Is the new programming simply converting your chip to a cat bypass version or is there some other 'new' fix included?
