How much harmonic balancer wobble is okay?
While trying to track recent stalling issues, I noticed what looks like some wobble in the harmonic balancer. Also the roller on the alternater belt was bouncing quite a bit.
Not sure if you make this out from the video.

Thanks.

+2. Looks like mind.
I recently took my car to a new shop and the tech mentioned the wobble also. He said don't worry about it if it's been like that for a while. Watch it to make sure it doesn't get worse, otherwise you're good.

Thanks Thomas and 911Jetta. That makes me feel a lot better.
Hopefully now fixing an exhaust leak down from the cat will fix a stalling issue that I have been having.

If the run out is greater than 0.5mm, what are the consequences. Is it merely the potential for broken belts or is it more serious such as putting the crankshaft under undue stress, eventually leading to failure?.

My '64 RS had a very wobbly pulley, I replaced it (by heck it's tight) and the wobble remained.
We found that prior to torqueing up the fastener the pulley would run perfectly true, but once the torque was applied to the securing bolt it ran out of true.
We tried this numerous times before coming to the conclusion that the nose of the crankshaft must have had a maching fault.
My "fix" was to fit a new belt and also carry a new spare belt in the car at all times !

I hadn't seen this video before. Exactly my situation prior to finding one of the plugs wasn't firing. Once the misfire was fixed the wobble and the belt jumping disappeared.
