BEST SOURCE FOR RESISTORS
i went to the shop ysterday to check progress of car and th car is finally running he said i should have it tomorrow. one thing i did notice though is the fan kept running to the point it would drain the battery so after rearding the posts on here guys mention that the resistor may need replacing so where is the bst price to get replacments. Another question is some one mentioned that there is a harness you can unplug to keep the oil cooler fan running all the time where is this harness so i can check to see if it got unplugged when engine was pulled?

Number MSRP $60.03
99361652101 Price $40.60
Air conditioner and heater - Condenser compressor and lines - Fan resistor
Fan resistor 1984 - 1994
*No Affillation with them or anyone else for that matter who buys, or sells Porsche or Porsche parts commercially. - There, I said it.

I think I recall people rigging up their own resistors by running (4) 2 Ohm / 13W in parallel with a heat sink. Then you gotta weatherproof it and attach it..... and yes, lots of Ptax

why is the heat sink required?im not tring to get smart or cheap but do the resistors build up that much heat they would require a heat sink? one can always find ways of waterproofing lectrical components but is this a viable option?i do not want to sound cheap here but i will finally get to drive my childhood dream car and would prfer to evaluate everything for a month or so before i go spending some bucks.
However if the fan is staying on and running battery down would make it hard to enjoy first month. As for this harness you unplug to keep fan running all the time where is it's location so i can check on the odd chance it got unplugged during the course of engine being pulled to be rebuilt?

could you take apart the old one and install the new resisstors? guess i would have to see it myself.
Also have you tried putting in a switch. See lots do that here to turn the fan on and off manually.

My acid comment was related to the A/C one (identical part#)
Here is a DIY for replacement*. The new part comes with a big metal washer to act as a Heat Sink, as the heat build up deteriorates the ceramic material. Not sure how you could rebuild them. $40 is cheap for anything PCar related, especially electrical.
*shameless plug.
