GarC , you got a damm fine looking 964 i,m just off to check my garage cause something might be missing
to the OP , car arrived on 16,s & now on 17,s with no noticeable ride difference ,i would even be tempted to go 18,s , tyre choice & pressures are crucial as you go bigger i find

I did some research yesterday and found that the lightest factory wheels for the 964 are the 16" Cup 1's, and not the D-90's. The set (7's & 8's) without tires, total 68 pounds for all four. The 17" Cup 1's, by comparison, weigh 83 pounds. Wow, big diff. The 17" Cup 2's weigh 72 pounds, as I recall.

Three Wheelin'
Interesting. I weighed the Mille Miglia copies (C2 Turbo / Cup2?) at 89.2lbs for the 7.5/9x17" set. I really don't notice the weight difference so far in street driving compared to the d90s.

I had a 2002 Boxster that I would swap out the stock 17" rims for the rims pictured on my 964 above during the cold months. The 16" rims gave a much better ride on the Boxster than the 17's (even with fresh tires on the 17's). The 16's had mushy winter tires on, but going down in sidewall does help a bit on these cars.
I also went down to 15" rims and high performance all season tires on my 1984 911 from the typical 16" Fuchs rims with summer only tires. There was a slight difference in ride quality as well. More rubber = more cushion.

I have a 92 964 C2. I run 17" Cayman wheels. They look wonderful and aggressive, and are a light open design. Three years ago I bought the set from my P dealer for $1k that were new car "take offs" from a Cayman, and came with new Conti Sport Contact II tires. The rear tires are 235/50/17s with a slightly taller sidewall but P approved for Cayman. The dealership put the set on for me, drove it, and said they run fine. No rubbing issues, and no ABS issues even with the taller rear sidewall. The ride quality is comfortable with the taller rear sidewall. Fronts 6.5", 55mm offset, 205/55/17. Rears 8", 40mm offset, 235/50/17.

Not sure what the weight is but these Turbo twists are hollow spoke and I like them on the car, the ride is perfect with Yoko Advans both road and track.
I have 6"&8" D90s in storage, I think the 6x8 configuration was to cure understeer but they look funny to me on a 911 and when they came out went a long way to angering the purists; new shape new wheel were just too much and it has taken all this time for the 964 to find it's fan base. The D90s just weren't butch enough.

I've driven several different sets of wheels on my 92 964, most are factory. The weight differences are noticeable, especially off the line. Lighter wheels feel nimble, heavier wheels feel like your lugging weight.
This is my list based on feel and handling alone, not by scale. Different tires were used so the tire weight is a variable throughout.
Lightest to heaviest.
1. 16" cups, 6" & 8", OEM on my 92 C2. Lightest.
2. 16" cups, 7" & 8", same design as OEM on my C2.
3. 16" 993, 7" and 8" (rear 8" is winter wheel, 70 mm offset I think, requires spacer with lugs).
4. 16" BBS, 7" and 8", offset 48. Sold a while back. Should have kept them.
5. 17" Cayman wheels. 6.5" and 8". Somewhat light feeling. (See my photo above on thread).
6. 17" 993 wheels. 7" and 9". Medium weight.
7. 17" Boxster twists. 7" and 8.5". Fairly heavy.
8. 17" C2 Turbo solid spoke 7" and 9". Heaviest.
