Default My 964 dreamcar/project

Hi guys,
I would like a turbolook body, a normal (non turbo) engine if possible a 3,8 and here it comes : tiptronic
Tip because I have a bad left knee and driving a manual is out of the question
I think I have a few options :
- take a turbo 3,3 and ditch the engine/trans and replace engine/trans from a tiptronic
- take an anniversary and ditch the 4x4 and put a tip in it
- do a wide body conversion on a normal tiptronic coupe
What do guys think is the best option ?
I know this is going to cost some money and time ...

Do a widebody conversion on a normal tip coupe and get a 9M (no affiliation, just a happy customer) 3.8 upgrade......they could build the entire car to your spec as Mark and his team in the body shop only do a perfect job

Yeah, a normal tip coupe seems like the most economical platform to start with. You should have no trouble finding a good shop that is experienced in widebody conversions.

A wild guess would be 10 k $ for the wide body conversion + 10k $ for the 3.8?

The previous owner of my yellow car had nearly $30k into the 3.8L conversion (of $70+K on the whole more-than-an-RS conversion).

What's magic about a 3.8? It's only 150cc over stock. You might spend all that money and be completely underwhelmed.

Would agree with Ken.

Maybe better to go with a stock 993 Varioram engine upgrade, which is realatively easy to do with a Motec ECU + the widebody.

Just be careful, the tip has an upper limit for torque.

Yes I think that a varioram 3,6 will be a better option
Depending on what I might find I am very tempted to go the 3,3 turbo route
Thinking of buying a turbo and swap engine and trans with a 993 varioram tiptronic. Might be the cheapest option since I could exchange the turbo engine and trans for the 993 tip without extra money (at a crash car dealer)
Just will have to pay for labor ....

Do you guys think it is possible to install a tiptronic on a 3,3 turbo engine ?

You will pay a lot more for a Turbo as a starting point than if you found a suitable Tip car.

I would like to avoid a turbolook conversion since this is not an original Porsche body

Since you are bastardizing a car to meet your specific wants, why destroy the value of a rare model when a more plentiful tip coupe can be made into what you want? Just another point of view to consider.

I have gone down this path and elected to keep my narrow body as is.

Have you considered a 996 Turbo Tip? Best bang for the bucks in my opinion for a twin turbo. I have seen them in the high $30's - Mid $40s for a 2001 and possibly 2002.

Add this to the other point of views...

You could argue both ways. The cost of doing the WB conversion with OEM parts is quite high. So you might be better of buying a high mileage turbo and replace the engine. Tough call. I would think it's better to start with an NA tip and then pay do widen the body at a serious body shop. It also seems counter productive to buy a perfectly sound turbo just to tear it down.. I think the cost for an OEM WB conversion using original parts is more in the region of 15-20K USD including repaint if done correctly. The great looks of the WB surely comes with a price tag.

I friend of mine has a 996TT tiptronic
It is a great car but nothing to do with an aircooled Porsche

I agree that a wide body conversion will cost more 20K than 10K so I think I will try to buy an original 3,3 turbo
I have seen one for €30K ...
