Constant oil gurgling noise....CURED!!
Hi guys hopefully you can help me out here.
On engine start up I get the gurgling noise from the rear right quarter as a lot of us do, then when the car gets warm, 8o'clock on the dial, the noise is still there although a little quieter. Seems no matter how far I drive it's still the same. The only time it stopped was when the gauge got up to 9o'clock sat in traffic, then started again when cooler. Just had a resent engine re-build and run Mobil S 5w-40 syn. with an OE filter.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Andy.

Thanks for the replies so far guys, I think the first thing to try is the filter to see if that makes any difference. The MANN filter sounds a good bet (cheers jevvy) but has anyone tried a K&N oil filter? They say they are high flow so maybe that could help. Makmov could you explain a little more on the "orientation" of the filter, do they not go on the same everytime?
Any more ideas would be welcome.

Do a search on "oil filter 964" and you will see that the OEM Mahle OC54 is the prefered filter to use; I wouldn't worry about a bit of gurgeling, it is just the oil returning to the tank, so at least you know there is oil in the system, and if you get a wrong filter, it can get very very expensive.

I believe it is a sure-sign that you need a louder exhaust - unless the gurgling is particularly sonorous. Drive around with the wife in the car at speeds to enhance the gurgling effect; then when she comments on it - you get a defact-o PurchaseApproval to remediate the noise.

I wont use anything but a Mahle OC54... same thing that is in a Porsche box.
The orientation on the filter console is mearly to the best of your ability lining up one of the holes in the bottom of the filter with the oil passage hole in the console. It is supposed to reduce gurgling. Seems like black magic to me and I don't go to that extreme but that is what I have been told to do about gurgling.
I have also notice at one time when my car was over filled with oil it gurgled and now that it is right on the money it haven't notice the gurgling.

I used to always here the oil gurgling until I installed a j-pipe. Now, I love the exhaust, but miss the gurgling - it let me know that oil was certainly flowing!
Of course, I was a submariner, so I'm pretty sensitive/attuned to little noises...

CURED IT!!!
OK guys thought some may like an update on this. Firstly in my original post I got the oil wrong and should in fact be Mobil S 10w-40 Semi-Syn.
So changed the filter without dropping the oil (just 500miles on that), with a Mahle OC 54 from the Porsche LS128 and the noise has gone completely, very happy...and can now hear my exhaust!
Thanks again for the help.
